Very good. It was a fantastic decision to give each character the same thematic obstacle. The whole plot of the game is breaking away from the past and tradition and this is reflected in every of the main characters's backstories and side plots. Also helps that their designs are really good.

Because nothing in X-2 is well written. Just look at Paine as the shining example of what was the point.

that's half the point of the game's story, it takes a complete outsider in the form of tidus with a complete unbiased view of the world for things to change because everyone else just takes it for granted

The main writer also wrote the absolutely fucking retarded X-2.5 novel so that means fuck all. Every scene Lulu is in she's talking about someone or something that isn't herself because she's the one that explains everything to you, and she defends Tidus, Yuna, and others just as much as she does Wakka. Everyone excuses Wakka's racism, and let's not ignore every time Chappu comes up and Wakka and Lulu have opposed and conflicting attitudes in how they deal with his death. There's absolutely fucking nothing that hints at them being more than good friends and CERTAINLY nothing even remotely romantic between them. The sequel shit on a lot of things about the characterizations and world-building of the original, Lulu and Wakka included, and I don't give a single shit about what that faggot Nojima writes when he's giving us bullshit as retarded as Sin coming back and Tidus kicking blitzball bombs.

And that's fine. The problem is, the story has to avoid telling Tidus all the important stuff, because they know the minute they tell Tidus these things, he's going to try and talk everyone out of it. Which is exactly what he does when he's finally told, 75% into the game.

The funny thing is you're trying to hard to defend FFX, but then ignoring who wrote it. You're just picking and choosing the things you like as "canon" and ignoring how the same writer wrote the other parts you hate. The original writer knows the character more than you do.
