Discord didn't do shit. It's just a Skype replacement which faggots were already using to congregate. Discord is just the new fancy church building they moved into. Twitch has had a more awful effect than a chat platform that has had many alternatives before it that were just as popular during their time.

Before Discord there were Skype groups, and people loved bitching about those. Wait until the new flavor of the year chat program comes around to take the torch and we'll have the exact same threads, but with a new coat of paint.

I mean, objectively speaking, twitch has changed the way games are made, companies want to have more eyes on their games so they can maybe make it big, everything is designed as a service now so having eyes on it constantly means new people potentially joining. That's very bad and it's made games focus on flashy looks and less skillful/paced gameplay. Everything has to happen super snappy to keep people's attention or they won't stream it.

But discord replaced skype, teamspeak/vent/mumble, and IRC all in one fell swoop. While games themselves have been hurt significantly by twitch and it's influence on development (And shift in marketing from mags to streamers, who are much cheaper and will usually say anything you want), discord has made it so you never, EVER communicate in game, with anyone, anymore. You want to talk about the game? You join the official discord. You want to find a group to do stuff with? Fuck world chat, go google for discord guilds. You want to learn about game updates? No more motd or game site, it's all on discord!
It's simplicity has turned everything about every game that's been released and has any sort of multiplayer component into a discord-centric mess. The most impacted are games where you try to coordinate or collect data. Fighting games are good. Some discords have framedata for certain games. And I've seen the leaders of those discords getting pissy over someone not liking them, and locking the server down, booting everyone/deleting it entirely and permanently removing that data, unless someone thought ahead to scrape it all and store it elsewhere.
Discord is far too flimsy for me to like it, so I think it's done more to hurt gaming, because it's not just affecting games (it is), but the communities as well.

I attribute that more to Xbox Party Chat than Discord. Since its introduction the days of mad shit talking on Xbox Live has just completely disappeared. And then that shit infested the PS4. PC has always had private chat options with Skype/Vent/Mumble/Teamspeak, and all of those ate their previous renditions. There wasn't a time where there were various chat programs being alive and popular. There was always a #1 dominator, and right now that's discord.

Wtf are you even on about? Discord revolutionized how easy it is to get friends together, stream content to each other etc. That it also enables random BS discord channels that nobody cares about and I never join, doesn't even matter.

Twitch matters to me personally even less. Only reason I even know about it is because a few friends follow streamers and don't shut up about it, and because some addons and services can only be used if you have a Twitch account. But I've literally never used it for anything besides that. Still, streamers have brought a massive influx of players, money, and as a consequence: games and services. This benefits all players.

To sum it up: Both have had nothing but a positive impact. A few thots or tranny channels don't change that.

I don't play MMOs, and I basically never see anything related to discord in the games I play. There was one game I played where one of the servers I played on had a discord, but it didn't prevent people from using the in-game chat. If people are using discord over a game's own chat, it probably points to something being wrong with it. But I wouldn't really know.

When you watch Netflix you pay a monthly fee to get access to a fuckton of content. You do not pay per-show or per-movie.
When you watch twitch you pay by occasionally getting ads. If you decide to support the streamer further, you can choose to donate.
Her content is not nearly valuable enough to justify such entitlement considering a monthly sub is about a third of what a monthly Netflix sub costs, and Netflix gives you infinitely more content.
