OG Final Fantasy VII

About to play this for the not first time. Last time I checked it out was 10 years ago. I don't know shit about it anymore, about limit breaks, about party composition.

Post your favourite general party for this game and why you chose the characters you did. Give me inspiration please!

Games easy as shit, literally just play it.

Cloud
Yuffie
Cid

always my go to party
yuffie's animations are cute, and cid's dialogue is hilarious and they someones have zoomer v boomer interactions

best farming points are
forests before junon (where you first have a change to get yuffie)
after you depart junon and get the buggy come back to junon to that middle road where you get to the underwater reactor and press the alarm for tough enemies to farm (the inn is on the next screen)
wutai is an amazing farm area because enemies come in decently sized groups and the electric birds will level up your limits fast as shit while dropping X-Potions and Phoenix Downs like no tomorrow

After this I'm not sure as I'm usually set after hitting Wutai right after Rocket Town and leveling up my 2 favorite characters - other favorites are barret and red

I've gotten to level 70 before heading to temple of ancients before. I greatly enjoyed the remake despite it's flaws, and can't wait for see Yuffie and Cid. I hope Cid still smokes because I've noticed nobody in the remake does, but I have a feeling they'll replace his cigarette with a toothpick. They even removed Kiryu's cigarette from Yakuza 3 remaster cover, and the cigarette heat move.

Cloud/Tifa/Yuffie
Multihit limit breaks are king
Keep Yuffie's limit break at Dance of the Dead

also I recommend playing New Threat as these farming areas still apply, and it's a great mod that makes the game harder

thanks bros, I'll check those out. Personally I always used Cloud/Red/Cid or Cloud/Vincent/Cid, mainly because no girls allowed back when I was a little shit. Never put any real thought into my party. It's true that in OG FF7 most characters are the same and only limit breaks really makes them unique. I might try out new threat, even though I think I might get my ass kicked since I'm not 100% in-depth familiar with regular ff7 anymore

just use those farming spots if you're not confident
the area before junon has this enemy group that comes in like 6s or 8s and level up your materia fast as fuck

this is my ideal party as well

conformer is arguably the best ultimate weapon in the game and highwind is a fantastic limit break

also yuffie and cid have great stat lines

also i want to watch yuffie and cid fuck

>also i want to watch yuffie and cid fuck

Game is easy enough to play without having to worry too much about strategy. There are few forever missable things in the game, just get a a list for that (it's not that important stuff anyway). Enjoy the maingame and you can focus on endgame stuff and completion at the end.

not sure this is the best thread to ask but
what's the best crt shader set up that avoids dithering? Crt royale doesn't seem to fix it

>I've noticed nobody in the remake does
You must be blind because President Shinra is smoking a cigar in half his scenes.

oh geez I forgot
evil man cigar is fine, but I wished there were slum residents that smoked

>evil man cigar

Hopefully Cid gets a gruff man cigarette because he needs to have that dynamite limit break.

>maximize materia for fun and profit instead of achievements
Those was good times

Red 13 is core for me. He has my favorite LB, Im still in love with his design, and his characterization, even arguably in OG, is just far more enjoyable than most of the other characters. He's the oldest member of the party, and he simultaneously "acts his age" and acts like the 'teen' his age equates to for his species, so its a fun little dichotomy to see his character act out.

As for gameplay reasons, Red also benefits from a few things;
1) Highest speed stat,
2) His HP range of 8982 - 9552 is the second or third strongest in the game, behind Barret's 9443-9999 and Cloud's 8965-9508.
3) While his MP range is arguably 4th/5th in range (814-866), like Cid his ultimate multiplies damage the closer to max MP he is.
4) He has the best Dexterity range (71-78) in the game, with Yuffie a close second (70-77)
5) Only close range fighter with a long range attacking weapon,
6) A team wide haste and personal % defense increase,
7) A personal haste/berserk with 60% attack buff LB,
8) Has the first LB to usually hit 9999 cap,
9) His 3 last damaging LB are all multi hit multi-enemey attacks with damage scaling.
10) and his LB are all earned at lower levels and easier/quicker than others.
While he's well rounded-ish like Cloud, he has a weapon or two to help specialize as either a caster or a physical powerhouse, if you want to avoid him being too rounded.
For any stat that isn't listed, he's always 4th or 5th in gain/range and sometimes close behind the person in front of him; the sole exception being him tied in 6th with Aerith for luck.

I wish Red bugged us in the remake despite not being playable. Would've made sense, but he doesn't do fuck all.

thanks for this detailed list of why you use Red. He sounds great, I always used him but never really spent much thought on why

Forgot to mention;
the rest of my party usually cycles.

Tifa's fun for heehee punchy punch, and she's a really good backup mage despite her physical strength.
Vincents a great ranged character to pick up, and I think he was a decent support mage?
If you put in the proper time to level her up and give her some stat boost supplements especially, Yuffie becomes a stealing crit-ing goddess of death.
Cait Siths just Fun With RNG™

Clouds a good all rounder so when you're undecided he can fulfill any role from offensive to defensive to support mage or physical powerhouse.

If anything, I'd say the two I use the least are Cid and Barret, because even in the OG I feel like Barret's damage was underwhelming and Cid never felt as fun to use as dragoon characters are in most games, but maybe I'm just being unfair to him.

TL;DR I usually mix it up with who I run, but I try to ensure I have at least one offensive/defensive mage, one support character, and a physical powerhouse. Which role Red takes usually influences who gets the other two.

damn they turned my nigga into wolverine n shieet

>bugged us

BUFFED*

Bugged? Like nagged on the party members? In fairness, he was usually quiet until post Midgar. He started getting snarky/naggy shortly after they left. He spent most of Hojos Lab/Shinra building quiet, I always figured he was sizing up the party.

You're welcome. People always overlook on him or bag on him at worst, so I figured I outta actually write up a proper list for why. The fuckers damn fast, so any comparative deficits he has in HP/MP/Strength/Luck is made up for by the fact that he goes so damn often.

More so, if you use most/all of the stat supplement items you get in the game on him (excluding grinding for more in the sub, of course)

Everyone always seems to go for any mix of Vincent, Tifa, Yuffie, and/or Cait Sith as their go-tos.

Oh buffed.

Yeah, that would've been nice, but his first buff is Lunatic High and you generally don't get that until like...Junon, I think? Maybe Marshes/Mines, if you're REALLY stacking the LB on him and grinding mobs in the overworld immediately after leaving Midgar.

It was nice to see him having Cosmic-themed attacks tho, and I REALLY liked his rendition of the Canyon motif/theme during his introduction. As cool as the jukebox's jazz rendition was, it just isn't Cosmo Canyon without that heavy fucking drum in the background.

I meant buffed, my room is dark.

What kind of fag doesn't use all the party members equally in a JRPG?

yeah every animation and move he had was spot on, which made him not being playable hurt even more

>wutai is an amazing farm area because enemies come in decently sized groups and the electric birds will level up your limits fast as shit while dropping X-Potions and Phoenix Downs like no tomorrow

No wonder Shinra went to war.

I gazed upon you and knew you wuz my wigga.

You want Aerith and Barret because they have the best dialogues

Don't be nice to tifa or dumb bitch. its the only way you can get a yuffie date later on

the barret tail whip and smile exchange where great
I hope they keep this avalanche snuggle theme

Should I actually try the original FF7 out? I never played it before, but it's been something I've thought about finally picking up for a while.

Be a Better/Yuffie bro! Learn the power of magic and friendship!

>zoomer v boomer interactions

fucking kek

I've started playing at it again too, just about to escape Midgar. You can use whoever you like because the games not really hard, endgame party for me is Cloud, Vincent and Cid but I think on this playthough I'm going to give everyone an equal go.

Shit I never did this run, is it really worth it bros!

what run

If you’ve been thinking about it then do it.

what's stopping you?

Yuffie/Cid I did every combo with her but Cid, so is it worth going back in for this run?

Yes! The tail whip was probably top 3 favorite scenes of the game, behind Red's "300 pound sack of shit" burn and Barret/Red's smile interaction.
When it happened all I thought was;
"Yeah thats pretty on point for Red's characterization. Thank god."
And Barret's instant "What the hell, Red?!" was on point too.
Honestly every interaction between Barret and Red was 100% on point.

Truthfully, I did not like Barret's VA at first. Too...arrogant. But over time, actor was actually allowed to convey emotion and portray range and shit, and I quickly grew to enjoy his performance. You can almost see the personality shifts between "Barret the friend/dad" to "Barret the Idealized Avalanche Leader", and you can DEFINITELY hear it.

Yes. Please keep in mind some parts of it may come off preachy or especially cliche, but this is basically the game that started the "Angsty Brooding Protag" trend that JRPGs still can't quite seem to shake.
It's not that Cloud and Sephiroth and them are cliche stereotypes; its that literally everyone (including Squeenix with FF8 immediately after) tried to copy the formula for their own 'instant success'.

There's enough character/build diversity to be worth playing or even replaying, and the combats still fairly enjoyable. And if you're the kind of bloke who likes grinding/min-maxing or overkill-ing, theres a part of the game (sunken sub) that u can grind out stat supplement items and roid everyone in your party; make them all your personal Auron One (Wo)Man Army™.

>use pic related
>it doesn't show I'm ingame and doesn't add to my FF7 playtime on Steam
FUCK, why?

Attached: file.png (1124x593, 436.2K)

Don't think anymore just do it. It's a great game

yeah yuffie and cid have a few nice interactions/disagreements

yep the tail whip and forced smile were 20/10.
barret and red are fucking spot on characters.
especially impressive how little of red we see.
the whole rescue red things had me on edge.

Great, I needed an excuse to play this again!

because it's trash, and so is the steam version of 7

Started playing it a few weeks back. Almost at the end of Disc 2. I'd played it on release back in 97 and I haven't touched it since. It's a lot better than I remembered. The sheer amount of optional stuff, hidden scenes, tricks, bugs, dialogue and overall content is almost mind-boggling for something nearly a quarter of a century old.

Playing Tifa / Yuffie / Barrett in rotation with Cloud since back in the day, I remember sticking with Vincent and Red XIII.

Vincent is the best magic user in the game.
