What SNES RPG is the best?

The one you posted. But a bunch of contrarians are going to rush in here and claim the most obscure RPG they can think of, to be different.

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals.

Yours. And Terranigma of course

Then allow me to preempt all of that. Here is your GOAT SNES RPG

This. Chrono Trigger is the most well-put-together game on the entire SNES library, and it just so happens to be an RPG.
I plan to play this soon, should I do it before or after Secret of Mana?

Came here to post this.

>tfw chrono trigger got a sequel
>tfw it is fucking awful and tramples on everything that made chrono trigger good
>and i'm not even talking about the story

The real question is why is the only good party for the entire game Crono/Lucca/Frog up until the final battle where you're best off switching to Crono/Marle/Ayla?

Chrono Cross was good. Not as good as Chrono Trigger, but still good. If it got a decent remake, it could be as good as Chrono Trigger.

You can play the game with literally any party at any time. And Chrono/Marle/Ayla is the best for 90% of the game because 90% of the enemies/bosses have no physical defense. So using Falcon Slash beats literally everything in the game except Golem and Lavos. Then you use Marle to cast Haste.

why is Frog so fucking worthless? He is the True Hero.

I'm gonna play this soon. Is the Wii U version ok?

What I'd really like to see - but is totally unrealistic and won't happen - is a fully remade Chrono Cross for SNES, like a romhack of Trigger. Do away with fights being separated from the exploration - because that was something Trigger did that was just so fucking right it's not even funny - and redo some level layouts to make it work. Optionally rework the combat to be identical to Trigger but Cross's combat is fine.

FFVI > Chrono Trigger

the one that isnt turnbased trash
so my Terranigga

Akira Toriyama can't draw lmao

After

I wholeheartedly disagree; his dual techs with Crono are kickass and he has a full group heal, AND he doesn't need fifty thousand layers of speed building to be usable.

Cyber Knights 2.

It's the Mass Effect of the times.

The problem is he really can, he's just a jaded old fuck (and has been one for well over 25 years now) and can't be bothered to make unique looking characters anymore. They're all Gohans and Android 17s.

FFVI fags are the worst
This or seiken densetsu 3

Both are masterpieces, but FFVI is a notch higher. It's also twice as long.

I often see this posted in these sorts of threads but nobody can ever explain to me what makes it so great

I've long argued for a remake of Chrono Cross with the Chrono Trigger engine. Or a remake with the engine of a modern Toriyama game like Dragon Quest XI. The key is, have Horii and Toriyama oversee it.

Even more important in my mind is they should remake Suikoden III using the Suikoden II engine. Suikoden fans already think II is the best and would absolutely love it. And Suikoden III should have never gone 3D to begin with.

Objectvie Top 5:
1. Breath of Fire 2
2. Lufia 2
3. Chrono Trigger
4. Seiken Densetsu 3
5. Final Fantasy 6

That's it, thread can be over now.

>FFVI
>masterpiece
3/4 the characters are superfluous, half the game is filler, the focus of the game (Kefka and Terra) are less interesting than most of the other characters, bugs everywhere, forgettable overworld and dungeons, graphics were lackluster compared to other games at the same time, gameplay is shit compared to FFV.

All it really has is memorable music and setting. And the setting was held back by the graphics.

Actual fun dungeons, every new dungeon is a new world of fun, compare this to any FF where each dungeon is just walk long hallways from Point A to Point B.

>compare this to any FF
There's your problem. There are other RPGs besides Final Fantasy.

Huh, alright?

Smooth combat. Fun dungeons with engaging puzzles. Simple but soulful story fitting for the era. Charming characters. Good music. Excellent game-within-a-game in the form of Ancient Cave.
Basically Golden Sun before Golden Sun.

nitpicking 10/10 games doesn't make you an interesting person user
