Sephiroth noticeably grins like an idiot during his one on one with Cloud, and has unique dialogue. In Japanese he says shit like >What's the matter Cloud? >Do you remember the last time Cloud? >Are you afraid of me? >What can you do? >Aren't you going to cry?
When Tifa shows up he visibly starts scowling and if you switch to her to fight him his lines for her are all variants of >Go away (three versions in pic)
When you fight him with Aerith he just says "you can't protect him" and then stops talking entirely. Apparently he hates Tifa more than her.
This is obviously Nojima's post-AC characterization of Sephiroth. Nojima says that because Cloud defeated him in 7, Sephiroth is now obssessed with him and Cloud is the only thing that matters to him, and he only speaks like a real person when he's talking to Cloud.
(Disregard the English translation it's mistranslated like fuck just like most FF7 stuff. They even mistranslated "regular grunt" to "rookie SOLDIER" what the fuck)
Did they change the lines for the english version?
Brayden Bell
yes
Joseph Gray
>Tifa winds up fixing Cloud's mind in the OG timeline >Tifa sperging out at him caused him to get stabbed in the spine >Tifa is the reason he doesn't get more screentime in the KH games
Of course he hates her.
Jackson Sullivan
The whole game is ""localized"" to fuck and beyond, nothing is the same.
Dominic Collins
Why must this always happen?
Asher Howard
the original ff7 ps1 translation is more faithful than the pc translation and retarded fan projects it just has typos.
>sephoroth fight >in Midgar This game is just fanfic.
Brandon Moore
Worse, it's devfic.
Josiah Ortiz
Yes. Like most of their interactions.
Jackson Peterson
Have you seen how Square hires translators? They straight up ask for people to submit fanfiction without bothering to check for actual translation credentials. I'm not even kidding.
Josiah Peterson
Evade materia is called Parry materia in the remake.
Sephiroth is obsessed with Cloud because he wants to merge with him or something.
Ryan Hall
Here's an older one >You are a character from a past Square Enix game. Magic makes you suddenly appear in present day Japan. Write a story from your (the character's) point of view.
If it's anything like Nintendo Treehouse, there's actual translators who do all the grunt work and put out a direct translation, then they give it to the localizers who "spice up" the translation with their own very loose rewrites.
Elijah Walker
Nomura said that Tifa is the antithesis to Sephiroth in Cloud's min She is his light that compels him to heal while Sephiroth compels him to darkness, fear, wrath, etc Also, if this is post-AC Sephiroth, he will literally cease to exist if Cloud forgets about him and moves on with his life FF writers are big on the concept of having your dreams and nitemares as things that can physically manifest as people and places in the real world, and this is just more of that motif
Caleb Martin
Even worse it's not good fanfic either. >oh the party lost a lot of shit in order to take out Septhiroth? >lmao even after all that they fail when it's assumed by fucking everyone that they won in the end >Now there's history niggas who control all of fate I'd be laughing my ass off if I wasn't so mad
Owen Kelly
Is Toriyama also in charge of the HR department?
Benjamin Bailey
yeah they're all repeat lines from advent children now.
Kevin White
Pretty sure I remember all of those dialogue lines being in the English version, too.
Hunter Peterson
It always was you fag
Leo Robinson
No, Square Enix Japan hires the translators themselves. The end result is them replacing all the important dialogue with random swearing.
JAPANESE >Grunts at the bottom of the pillar say "why would Avalanche want to blow up the pillar?" indicating that Shinra lied to them and they're not there to literally kill themselves ENGLISH >"Hurrr why is Avalanche such a bunch of assholes"
JAPANESE >Barret: "It's that guy from before!" Aerith: "No it's not." (Indicating it's the real Sephiroth) ENGLISH >Barret: "HEY ASSHOLE" >Aerith: "Don't"
Seriously
Austin King
Whats the point of making the translators write fanficiton. Do they hope to move them into writting later on?
Isaiah Sullivan
kek, are they based in Osaka? I should apply.
Ryan Adams
They don't care about translation, they want ""localization""
Blake Scott
>Barret: "It's that guy from before!" Aerith: "No it's not." (Indicating it's the real Sephiroth) ENGLISH >Barret: "HEY ASSHOLE" >Aerith: "Don't"
What the fuck no fucking way, what is wrong with these people?
Xavier Walker
Another one is the last line in the game
English has Aerith say she misses the metal sky
Japanese has her say she hates the sky (because it's open and represents freedom and thus uncertainty)
