It would require talent
I fucking love job systems, I've played Final Fantasy Tactics, FF5, Bravely Default, and octopath traveler.
What other games use this type of class customization system and are any of them not made by square?
because being able to use the wrong thing frustrates the majority
it's better for the majority to do what they're being told they should do
Unemployment's been on the rise.
As much I love the job system, one thing they routinely get wrong is balance. There is always a combination that is so horribly broken it kinda kills the enjoyment of the game.
because the grinding is monumental and fucking boring, as evidenced by pic related.
Dragon Quest III, VI and IX.
>stat growth is job-dependent
not a big fan really
Encourages grinding
Difficult to balance
I savescummed this game to hell.
because as this game proved, its extremely hard to balance. even the hardest fights in the game are trivial with the right setups.
>draw your sword ramza
lol no, feather boots monk setup with squire secondary to yell and scream until i two shot even the lucavi
>riovanes roof, literally the next battle
strip naked a female white mage in the back so one assassin goes after her, ramza and a thief with full speed setups critical the other assassin
>12 chocobos lol
math, and everything else in the game after with a combination of math and orlandu
its extremely hard to pull off, its a miracle that fft and tactics ogre managed to pull it off without making the games TOO broken
Man i would pay 500 dollars for a well made final fantasy tactics remaster or remake if they improve the difficulty and add more content and jobs but instead they made god knows how many rinse and repeat bullshit games. You would think that when they shat out the tenth or eleven game in the franchise they would try to inovate come up with something new or improve upon tactics, they shit out 4 more of the same shit and remaster some more of the same old shit also square as a company to s shit i played most their other games outside of final fantasy and boy they are a letdown. Final fantasy tactics really is a dimond in the rough hopefully they do something similar before the company goes under.
Too complex to balance. Too divorced from storytelling.
Also FFT on steam when?
Because there's no commitment to anything and the games are impossible to balance when you allow players to respec at any time and however they like.
It makes mechanically shallow games like FF even more shallow.
i'm amazed at how many posts in this thread are not about the job system at all but they dont seem to realize it.
>Be an accountant your whole life
>Nah I wanna be a carpenter now
>WHY DO I SUCK AT CONSTRUCTION AND PHYSICAL LABOR
>he doesnt min max and cant plan ahead
Enjoy never retiring.
which ones? because as says, the game is broken fundamentally once you're able to set up your entire party in whatever way you choose. Even during a first time playthrough you don't necessarily need every single unit knowing every ability and spell, certain ones can specialize, customizing your loadout for each encounter. This game is insanely simple once every male is a monk trained ninja and females are black mage trained summoners/mathematicians with move +2 and magic attack up, what are you saying
Take your account/ number skills to measuring things. Circular saw and hammering don’t take much physical prowess.
all those problems are balance related, numbers problems, not job system related. There's plenty of games with classes that aren't clusterfucks of balance.
Please dont be a retard, honestly take a look at a proper construction book ad how complicated it is to actually do shit to code when building homes and load bearing structures.
>resorting to faqs and guides on your first playthrough
never gonna make it
go back.
The job system in FFT is terrible.
such as? i've played a couple, and the ones there are very easy once you know how the system works.
also how is it not job system related when ramza alone makes most fights easy with him solo once he knows yell and scream with any sort of speed +physical attack setup? i want to follow your trail of logic but its lacking bro
>Enjoy never retiring.
You say that like you're making seven figures annually.
You don't need to grind in FFT
Icewind Dale 2
Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2
Temple of Elemental Evil
>how is it not job system related when ramza alone makes most fights easy with him solo once he knows yell and scream with any sort of speed +physical attack setup?
now imagine if yell and scream didnt provide speed or physical attack. or if buffs didnt stack. its a balance problem, not a job system problem.
Alternatively, you could put time into multiple disciplines and be good at all of them.
>all those problems are balance related, numbers problems
The job system is fundamentally broken outside of number problems, whereas any other sane system forces you to commit to something AND taxes you for using certain toolkits or abilities, FF's job system does neither, you can do whatever and whenever, at best the games arbitrarily lock you out of certain jobs for the hell of it until you reach a certain point in the story, which still doesn't matter in the end because the games are piss easy AND have several, massive balance related problems in the first way.
The Job system is a mess, it's something that only FF can really afford to do because it can use the franchise's name and massive paid/unpaid shilling to get away with it all, any RPG player worth their salt can understand how it's an incredibly low effort system at its core by the simple premise of being able to respec you characters however you want at all times, with no real limit or logic to it outside of how many free slots you have to fill out with whatever ability you grinded to learn.
And again, this is without considering how piss poor the games are on both the balance and mechanical side.
you need to grind everytime a unit dies to get the new unit up to par
What about dresspheres
In FFT, at least, the classes are balanced. And single player games are pretty fun when broken. Case in point: HoMM3.
yes and no. if you know what you're doing, grinding in minimized in that you already know what jobs to level up in order to get the class you want, but if you dont you could spend hours leveling a geomancer only to find out you only needed 2 levels in it to get oracle, that sort of thing
>imagine if yell and scream didn't do the things they do
at that point yes, it would be a different game. the job system allows you to use abilities that affect you and the enemy in certain ways, including screaming until you go super sayijin
shoutouts to delita with the godlike theme : youtube.com
lmao ok shitter
>HoMM3
that shit was hilariously great in hotseat multiplayer too
lol, here comes the totally realistic
>oh my god dude just dont die on your first playthrough ever like omg why r u bad lmfaooooo these problems dont even exist because i've played through the game 10 times and dont experience them anymore man just like close ur eyes haha
Almost nothing would make me happier than seeing a sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics, with the same or a better one job system. And by sequel I mean a proper sequel.
I will not say that I didn't like the AP system in FFTA and the game overall, I really enjoyed. But FFTA2 was such a shitshow for me, mainly cuz the stupid whole loot thing.
>the classes are balanced
*calculator blocks your path*
C'mon, user. Be better than this. Anyone kid can figure that the guy you invest levels in a magical class will become a good caster. This is simple character progression. And you also get a lot of new high level characters through the game with special powers if you need a reset: Agrias, Mustadio, Rafa, Malak, Orlandu, Cloud, Reis, Beowulf. And even if you fuck that up, you can still use Invitation and get enemy units and monsters.
