One of the shittiest takes I've ever seen

He makes a very solid point. There is beauty in limitations and imperfections.

Art that removes every flaw also removes every trace of humanity. Its why I never liked Stanley Kubrick films, technical perfection and all I feel is sterile boredom.

FF7 never tried to be realistic, what the fuck? The only person who wouldn't stick out in a crowd of the entire main cast Aerith, the setting is still sci fi and a lot of the shit you fight is just unrealistic. The problem isn't realism, it's shitty writing.

That is 8 images. Just combining them doesn’t make describing it with 1 image

FF7 remake isn't trying to be realistic though. The characters are stylized and there's a fuck ton of colored lighting that are far from realistic. FfXV is the boring realistic one.

This is one of those images that only brainlets post.

this image is the epitome of "black and white quote means it's a smart quote but in reality it's dumb as shit", it's Yas Forumss version of facebook quote images

The art style in FFVII tries to be realistic. With that said I don't think this is the main problem with the game or with art in general.

or it's an overrated weeb game

Realism has done a number on games because with high fidelity you have to invest a lot more resources to make something look realistic. At some point this reaches diminishing returns and there's a huge inflation of game dev costs. Having said that, this is a problem that's more to do with vidya than anything else, and also I think Hitchcock is wrong when it comes to sculpting.

In what way does FF7R try to be true to life? Because the models look (somewhat) human and the setting looks somewhat like the real world? Compare the world of FF7R to a game that genuinely aims for realism, like Hitman, and see how much that argument holds water.

>The characters are idealized
Ftfy.

No thats Xenogears...or whats next on the deck.

I don’t know, Midgar and the NPCs look straight out of a normal urban area

>In what way does FF7R try to be true to life? Because the models look (somewhat) human and the setting looks somewhat like the real world?
Yes, the art looks undeniably more realistic than the highly stylized art in the OG. I'm not talking about setting realism, as this is not the point of OP.

graphical fidelity was low, games = soul
graphical fidelity super high = souless

checks out

It also applies to drawing too.

Loomisfags absolutely BTFO. Go get a camera if you want muh realism.

Prerendered 22 y/o background vs. real time background, semi interactive. Both are just pseudo modern/steampunk elements of a city. Miss the first because it was closer to the latter. Nixey numbers, brick and mortar, etc.

this is dumb. cave paintings and shitty medieval manuscripts are not better than more realistic roman sculpture and renaissance paintings

Nigger, look at this and look at the remake Cloud. Which one looks more like a real person?

An inability to connect intellectually with movies like dr.strangelove I a sign of lack of knowledge, even when his movies are vastly out of date with their topics the charm remains at least in a historic sense.

damn these are really good

Soul

user, I don't give a shit about the characters, am in it for the setting.

These are not terrible but I prefer the originals.

Like for example to me looks beautiful. It adds completely to the charm.

This is absolutely wrong though. There are certain real-life things you'll never experience or be aware of if there wasn't film of it. Video games can make this even more visceral.

Kill yourself boomer.

Everyone knows Zach died outside of Midgar. What this game presupposes is--maybe he didn't?

This is just nostalgia speaking. SE was inexperienced with 3D back then and did an objectively awful job with some parts of the FFVII graphics (the backgrounds were beautiful and some cgi was decent for its time). Just look at FFIX which was in the same hardware and uses a similar character art style but still looks so much better.

The only movie I liked from him was Barry Lyndon, and that's because it had such a troubled production that Kubrick could only Kubrickize his movie so far.

I admittedly have a soft spot for the "open to interpretation" translation from 6's chibi sprites to 7's chibi models. If anything the ninostyle models are a little too detailed compared to even upscaled backgrounds, but it's a nice translation of the chibi style at least and works surprisingly well in motion.

Released 5 years later, at the end of the life cycle of the Playstation. FFXII also looks way better than The Bouncer--who fuckin' knew?

We are far from the technique being perfected

this looks like generic JRPG shovelware schlock and you all know it

really makes you think...

You can say you appreciate the simplicity, but it's far from beautiful.

Nah, it looks great.

He actually has a point.

Final Fantasy Remake is entirely a PRODUCT; it was not made from a spark of intuition or a unifying theme the way Final Fantasy 7 was.
