No wonder the music in Doom 2016 and Eternal is garbage. It's deliberately designed to be as inoffensive as possible.
What the hell happened to iD anyway? If you told me 20 years ago that the people who made Doom and Quake would dismiss metal music as being too corny, I would have laughed in your face.
Because most metal music in video games IS corny. It's the same stale butt rock or thrash riffs that were last popular 20 years ago. The suits had no idea stuff like Meshuggah exists.

>So we started for about six to nine months doing just synthesisers, and then after a while, I started going, “You know what, guys... if we can add five percent guitar in here, everybody will love it.” >Then that five percent turned to ten percent. Then it turned to 15 percent. And just like when you and your mates are out for a night, trying not to drink too much, it turned into an all out bender. It was cool, though, because we arrived at those metal-type sounds from a different direction. So we didn’t set that as the initial style, we didn’t say, “Let’s make a metal soundtrack.” We went synths and kickdrums, and then we ended up working in metal elements. I feel like that’s what gave Doom its identity in a way, it wasn’t just a straight ‘90s thrash tribute thing. Why did you crop this part out?
Grayson Martin
>1% metal that's even worse than just not bothering in the first place
Jackson Williams
Are you illiterate? >Then that five percent turned to ten percent. Then it turned to 15 percent. And just like when you and your mates are out for a night, trying not to drink too much, it turned into an all out bender >it turned into an all out bender
Isaiah Lee
>having to covertly sneak in guitar music in a Doom game Pathetic. Is this supposed to be a defense of the music? No wonder the end result sounds like watered down wannabe-metal garbage.
Ryan Martin
The music worked out fine. I swear to God this board will complain about anything.
Then why do triple-A games avoid it like the plague? Heck, Doom Eternal's commercials even had rap music. They went out of their way to hide the fact that they have metal music.
Robert Walker
Because metal is cringy as fuck
Brandon Butler
>corny >metal wut
Parker James
>garbled noise Why does everything in Doom 2016 and Eternal sound so muted and dull? Like you're hearing the music through three concrete walls. Nothing stands out, nothing has a proper climax or crescendo. Everything is just a generic blur.
Mason Murphy
metal is the third most white genre of music ever we cant pander to white people now can we?
Hunter Williams

>nothing has a proper climax or crescendo. Everything is just a generic blur. It's dynamic and changes with the gameplay, it's not meant to be listened to outside of it without proper mixing.
Christopher Perez
Because the songs aren't written to be like a traditional song structure, so they always sound like endless build up if you're just listening to the youtube rips
Brayden Cox
In what world is metal 'offensive'? Especially among video gamers.
Brandon Brown
Country is way whiter than metal.
Kayden Nelson
You need better ears so, because this track is full of layers and all frequencies are filled with mastery
Joshua Jenkins
>No wonder the music in Doom 2016 and Eternal is garbage. The fuck are you talking about you stupid bastard? The whole article is about how they eventually went with metal. Eternal's soundtrack in particular is fucking awesome. 2016 is really good too.
