What was the last game that surprised you?

Half-Life: Alyx, but I'd rather talk about how good Rain World was. Because holy shit Rain World is amazing.

Fuck yeah. I hated/loved it for the first 15-20 hours, and then I finally got the hang of it and stopped dying so much. Beat it recently and now I just love it. Gonna try for 100% at some point. Seems like it'd be annoying, having to make multiple trips across the whole world for all the pearls.

Some of the pearls are absolutely sadistic and retarded, but if you haven't looked up the lore bits (which I'd recommend against doing), recovering the pearls is very interesting.

If all you want for 100% is all achievements/sandbox unlocks, you don't actually need to get the pearls. But you do have to get a bunch of sandbox unlocks in Hunter mode which is its own insanity.

Oh ok. I might go for achievements later, but right now I just want the pearls. Even though I beat the game, I still have no idea what's going on, because I accidentally killed Moon.

You monster. Then yes, your second playthrough will be very interesting.

>Get trough this
>Almost rain time
>Get trough gate
>Looks like there is platform on correct layer
>Its not
>Have to do it again
Oh well
It wasn't so bad. Just cancer.
I expected Memory Crypts to be worse.

Getting to the Leg and quickly having to learn how to use a grapple worm before the rain came was quite an experience. Trial by fire.

coincidentally enough, Rain World was the second to last game that blew me away. Last one was Pathologic 2, what a fucking ride that was too. God bless lockdown and free time, god knows I'm gonna miss it

I followed this thing since like 2014 because it seemed really god damn cool. And it was beyond god damn cool, so I'd say I was surprised.

Yeah. And then someone told me that I could bring a neuron from elsewhere and she'd be fine, but I already devoured all four neurons like the hungry slugcat I was.

I wish I discovered it earlier. It made a big splash on Yas Forums but I didn't pick it up until last year. Fucking missed out, man.

>It made a big splash on Yas Forums

Yeah, almost two years after it released when it was on humble bundle and finally came out for the switch. I saw only a handful of brief threads when it was new. And if my memory is right, they were full of autistic shitposters crying about shills and comparing it to Hollow Knight. The absolute garbage reviews it got didn't help.

At least it eventually got the love it deserves.

Start of the leg is a special kind of cancer because there is no food at the start of the leg.
And there is only food in Memory Crypts at specific points in the cycles, IF you are good at hunting the electric super bugs.

That said, I really liked how the time limit of the cycle went out of the Window once you got to Five Pebbles area.

I'm pretty sure there's some "fruit" spots early on in the Leg, during the vertical climb.

Darkwood
Return of the Obra Dinn
Disco Elysium

I wish this wasn't spoiled for me. People were talking about it at the Wall, because you get above the clouds, but I realized immediately what was happening in 5P.

100% the game
>but you can’t delete individual runs unless you ascend
>can’t restart hunter runs when you messed up badly
>can’t undo the stolen enlightenment on my monk save

hold down the R key when selecting a save

How was I supposed to know that?

What surprised you in Return of the Obra Dinn? I felt like the strength of that game was in not surprising you.

It’s popular in Japan I believe

The Underhang and The Leg where lightning hellholes.
At the least they got that right.

Not that guy. I honestly don't know, I saw it in a video.

I wouldn't be able to tell, based on the lack of fanart.

i was surprised by how many people on Yas Forums seemingly like rain world despite the game having way too simple of a gameplay loop

The game does have a few surprises near the end, but it surprised me in how well made the detective aspect was for a videogame.
Honestly all 3 of those games just surprised me in their quality after feeling jaded by most games that come out

>The most desperate struggle for survival there is
>Simple

It's simple if you're reductive/retarded.
