Since it was sent through the lifestream, Sephiroth gets this knowledge too. Thats why Aerith is scared and distracted at the beginning of the remake. She saw everything and doesnt know what teh fuck is going on. Thats why Sephiroth also annoys cloud so early in the game: hes already pulling the strings. Aerith wants to pull the strings too, but ghosts appear to stop her, same to sephiroth.

He isn't from the future, he was given visions of the future due to Jenova cells. It might seem retarded that Jenova gives time manipulation to its users, but I think it fits the theme of duality throughout FF7. In particular, the differences between Jenova and the Planet / the Ancients. Think of Jenova has having the power of time and space while the Ancients have the power of the planet--the classical elements.
