I'd only really call him that in his titular game. Him being alive was honestly a bad idea in retrospect with how much he's been misunderstood and with how little he has to do now, but he was decent in Heroes and probably one of the only redeeming qualities of 06.

I'm one of those people that could talk for hours about how I don't like Sega going full retard on the irony in response to criticism from reviewers that usually didn't like Sonic to start with or just straight up misunderstood the gameplay and called it bad, but Shadow's game put them down that path for certain with how much it botched characters and how bad the gameplay itself was. Sonic 4 is just a giant shit of a game and it was one of the only Sonic games I actually felt like I wasted time by playing it, but I never played the shit ports, Lost World or Forces, so that's probably why.

Battle has its issues with cutscenes and off visual effects compared to the original Dreamcast version, but the multiplayer and chao garden expansions were great compensation. If Sega wasn't lazy and/or financially crippled, Sonic games could have amazing multiplayer expanding on and improving Battle's multiplayer modes or even adding online shit with chao garden.
