Its a new thing in R because in base 5 they had nothing other than their confidant quest. You get some skill cards and funny scenes but it does not rank them up. If you have nothing better to do in ng+ or if u finish everything early it seems like a fun addition.

You get skill cards, most of which correspond to their Confidant requests. So if you're having a problem getting Bugs with Samarecarm, you can take the twins out three times and they'll give you a Samarecarm skill card. But beyond that, there's no functional reason to do it.
