No... because the other villagers, as you said, look fine. Its literally just wanting to have the "popular" villager. Aside from Jock and Uchi personality (which you get one of at the start), every villager has a 1/400 chance of appearing. So if one is given arbitrary value (like tumblrcat) then people will go rabid trying to have le funny trap cat.

Often these are hyper-compact and kind of reflect more of a "Housing project" than each animal living in an environment that's really catered to them. There's a certain allure to small clusters of housing- Audie on the beach in her tiki-bar house, Dobie in the dark recesses of a shady, forested area, two jocks with an outdoor mega-gym laid out between their houses.
Sure, there's nothing wrong with "I want to be able to see who's doing a DiY with the least amount of effort possible", but in terms of pure spiritedness it's kind of a turd.
