If I don't give a shit about Half Life as a whole, why should I get Half Life Alyx and not Boneworks?

You shouldn't.

>If I don't care about a series why should I get a game in the series?
Shit, thats a head-scratcher

Well it's a pretty great AAA cinematic experience, but doesn't really provide a challenge beyond that.

Also that fucking retcon.

I was asking because lots of people are treating it as the definitive VR FPS, but from what I've seen I'm not very impressed.

It's popular, of course Yas Forums will pretend it's shit.

then don't get it

Alyx was able to climb the rainpipe of a building, and pull herself up said building, and jump, crawl, run in Half-life 2

why can't she do these things in Alyx?

because this isnt fucking mirrors edge kiddo

Neither was Half Life 2 kiddo

>I don't give a shit about Half Life
filtered

I liked the first game and its expansions, but caring about Half Life in 2020 is pure reddit.

why are you treating video games like fashion, you dumb slut, they don't have expiration dates

Half Life 2 and beyond are all shit. You know this is true.

Because its a good game.

you can afford a headset but cant afford 2 good games?

This hurts me on a spiritual level

How is HL2 and the episodes shit?

The gameplay is shit though, boneworks is tons more fun and way more dynamic

Not so much the episodes like that user said but HL2 is definitely the weakest entry in terms of being fun. Too many low points and it was obvious parts were just completely contrived for the sake of showing off the physics rather than being fun segments.

Because Alyx is longer, has better graphics and sound, better story, and is less glitchy.

>hey Gordon, remember me? it's gordon! from black mesa! remember the beer I owed you? remember?
Which barney is he supposed to be, in Half Life I must have killed like 20 of them

She can do all those things in Alyx as well. In fact she can also teleport quickly now on top of that.

Half Life 2 was weaker than HL1 overall but HL2 Episode 1 and 2 is way better than both.

Hard disagree. I just played them both and while they're both fun but Alyx is a better game.

He is supposed to be one of the guards, just like Kleiner and Eli are supposed to be one of the scientists. That is not necessarily a bad thing,

boneworks is amazing for about five minutes before the jank starts impacting literally eveyrhting you do in the game and it becomes a mediocre to shit experience.

Better aesthetics and gunplay I think

Only retarded contrarians will tell you that there's nothing good about Alyx.
I've played it from start to finish and my jaw was on the floor the entire time, this is exactly what I expect from a singleplayer VR story experience.
Sure there's a lot they could've done to make it even better, but even then the game is on a whole different level than other VR titles out there.
Never played boneworks though but I'm planning on getting it after I clean out some games from the library.

Sounds like you just didnt like it.

>He is supposed to be one of the guards, just like Kleiner and Eli are supposed to be one of the scientists
So does Half Life canon acknowledge they worked in a facility with hundreds of doppelgangers, or does Half Life 2 just make up new rules and make them unique characters?

If it is your first VR game, Alyx will impress you, but beyond that the only thing Alyx really has going for it is an impressive visual/design budget, which isn't a bad thing because that's really what the VR market lacks the most.

>haha, here's your crowbar gordon! remember the crowbar? it was the weapon your used in the first game!

From my knowledge, HL1 was pretty much lacking in variety so the scientists and guards were just copy pasted. So in HL2 they pretty much took that and created unique characters out of them. I dont see a problem there.

I did like HL2 but there's so many parts of that game that just make me dread doing another playthrough like Water Hazard and Highway 17 on the basis of just not being fun. The episodes cut the bullshit and try to refine the gameplay. Even Episode 2 made the shitty source engine driving fun.

Why dont you play the Black Mesa remake? It pretty much fixes your problem. Half Life 1 did not have this variety for multiple reasons. Its an old game.

>I did like HL2 but there's so many parts of that game that just make me dread doing another playthrough like Water Hazard and Highway 17
what kills it for me is having to spending probably an hour total standing around listening to npcs talk to each other in "not cutscenes".

Water Hazard and Highway 17 are based

>gee gordon you sure dont talk a lot haha. man of few words arent you? god it sure was a good idea to force a blank slate mute protagonist designed who could be a muderous psycho if the player wanted to be in the first game and then tearing all of this down in HL2 so now we just get to awkwardly talk at you and make funny quips about how you never talk all the time but you cant shoot us and take our guns lol

>504309609
reminder to not give him any (You)'s, it's our only hope of getting him to go away

Thanks for the you

Imagine being such a zoomer consoomer that you blindly suck the cock of nuvalve and don't question that shitty retcon.

>gee gordon you sure dont talk a lot haha
I hated Alyx from the moment I first saw her in Half Life 2 and she gives you that stupid shit eating grin. Fucking annoying bitch.

lol seething zoomer
