I liked it at launch okay.
I tried it again semi-recently (a year ago?) and didn't like how the whole game just scales with your character. No sense of advancement, mudcrabs are just as strong as daedra, just as strong as dragons, everything no matter where you go just scales to your current character.
It's intolerable.

OP is right, but that just speaks to the dire state MMORPG's are in these days.
If you want to have fun, go to The Withered Tree Pub in Riften because that is where you can watch everyone ERP.
ESO is average at best, and I miss the days of good mmorpgs like classic Maplestory.

The combat is awful. It’s a tab target mmo, exactly like EoW, except some skills you “aim”. All attacks are locked in the moment you execute the skill no matter if you avoid it visually. The combat is worse than Skyrim vanilla. Every zone is too small to explore, if you walk for one minute you are at the next loading screen. Loot feels more generic than Skyrim because everything scales. Enemies are all the same, they just have different models but they all act exactly the same.
The game is 100% garbage and is awful even by mmo standard.

As someone who plays it fairly regularly, the main thing it has going for it is storyline/quests, BUT only in the expansions/dlcs, base game is shitty and boring in basically every aspect, dlc has much better locations, characters and storylines. Combat is meh, PvP is meh, exploration is fine, but as above, only in non-base game areas.

It's not worth it for lore reasons either because when you have 600 kill 5 bandits quests you tend to glance over the stupid fucking books. It's just a themepark too and the pvp is entirely confined to an instanced gamemode so the crutch of the story is completely irrelevant. They even let you bribe your way into using any race for any faction.

I played 2 weeks free trial after XIV and honestly have no idea why people call combat bad. It's pretty good and comfy at gamepad. You weave on autopilot after some time. The singleplayer content blows out XIV trash. World looks good. PVP is fun.
