Here's the best and only advice worth anything for a first time player. Close this thread and play the game 100% blind. I'm telling user, there's nothing better than playing these games blind. I looked up some things on my first DS2 playthrough and regretted it. Also, the other advice that's good is just pick whatever you think is cool for gear/stats and don't give up when you eventually hit a wall.
>Never played a souls game before now, what are some recommendations for a first time player new to the series?
Play DS1 first
dont rage quit
why are people praising ds1 so fucking much? ds3 is better.
Honestly this.
Dark Souls 3 is much cooler after having played 1 and 2, but they're all great games. If you've got the time and the money, I'd play them chronologically.
This will make the game easier but it's the best way to go if you're getting filtered.
Level str and dex to minimum to wield the weapon you want. Always level your weapon as high as you can. Focus vigor over all.
Weapon upgrades are important. That is all you need to know.
It's harder to appreciate dks1 if it isnt your first.
Should have started with 1 or even demons souls if possible. You would have appreciated the sequel changes and callbacks even more.
Take the fire gem as starting gift, infuse a weapon with it, get 14 str for shield, and 27 vit. You are now set for 75% of the game.
Am I retarded? I did this and
>I never encountered Cornyx
>I never found Karla
>I never found Rosaria
>nor Archdragon Peak
>Or Orbeck
>Ran straight past Farron Keep
>Never found Irina
>Never finished any questline Sirris, Anri, Yuria etc
>Never got invaded by NPCs
I damn near missed half the game.

Don't make a jack-of-all-trades character because he/she will suck. Pick a class and if you decide on a warrior type (my myself is a pure pyromancer or a sorcerer) pay attention to to weapon scaling. In warrior's case it's either STR or DEX. HP is obviously important (Vigor in this game), as well as Stamina.
Missing somewhat hidden shit is part of the experience.
It gives you motivation to replay the game.
I missed a bunch of shit too on my first run. It's normal. Anyone that says they found shit like dragonpeak on their own is probably lying. It still made the game 100 times better even with missing a bunch of stuff because the things I did discover were a surprised. Like untended graves I found by myself, if I had followed a guide it wouldn't have been nearly as much of a oh shit moment as it was.
3 is a good entry point, but honestly it takes so much stuff from 1 that you should probably play that one first.
2 is a better starting point since its story is more independent (not completely though) and it is more welcoming than 1, which at first is pretty hard ngl
>ds3 is better
lol

Thank you lads. Looking forward to getting my shit pushed in over and over. All the secrets and rewarding exploration is probably going to be the parts I enjoy the most.
Your fault for not exploring properly.
People will tell you it's what's supposed to happen but they're wrong.
>praising
how is telling someone to play a game series in release order "praising"?
Find a weapon that you like the feeling of and upgrade often.
when you dodge roll your become invincible for a short time, roughly the first half of the roll. This is the best way to avoid damage, blocking with a shield will work at the start but rolling quickly becomes necessary.
Go, die, have fun.
>Get comfortable with dying, you will die a lot, just think of it as part of the game. >Always expect a trap or an ambush, enter areas slowly and try to engage enemies one at a time or in groups as small as possible, the quickest way to die in Dark Souls is to try to take one 5 enemies at once and get gangbanged to death.
>Explore every little area, this may seem minor but often you can waste hours searching for the right path only to realize you glanced over it while walking.
>If you get enough souls to level up, level up immediately especially if you think a boss is coming up, if you lose your souls and die again without retrieving them all that work goes to waste
>If you are stuck on a boss, or can’t get past an area, play with your build or grind a little, some bosses or areas can be trivialized with the right armor or level or can be hell with another
>Don’t feel the need to finish the game if you don’t enjoy it, Dark Souls isn’t for everyone, if you hate the game just quit playing it (I loved Dark Souls but hated Sekiro). I say this because often people mistake difficulty with enjoyability and you don’t have to suffer to enjoy this game. If you don’t find it fun, quit.
the world of DS3 is not even close to DS1, also DS1 felt like an adventure, DS3 felt like a greatest hits album
well you bought the worst one
Good job, starting with the worst one, keep the trend going and play demon souls next
Look at the bright side. If he likes this one, he will love the rest of the series.
he'll complain that the first games are too slow. also, Anor Londo.
>play demon souls next
you mean last
He’s not playing Dark Souls 2 though
That's the one you play last
I hate the glitchy armor pieces in DS3.
The shoulder plate glitch of the "Knight Armor Set" for example is annoying as hell.
Play as a historically accurate knight, no magic or unrealistic armor or weapons.
