Are the base unmodded PC textures the textures that they use in the console versions? I can't imagine all of the textures in the game are like this. I played PC with the texture mod so I don't know how many more examples there are like this.

thats how i did it with games from disc. but steam seems fucked as and nexus has its own application that installs things but it never works

Get FAR mod to unfuck the game in general for PC, and check out the definitive set of mods on nexus, high res textures, Thicker 2B etc

That's not how it works.
The game was low budget to begin with, but they also had to downgrade it to make it run better on junk-tier consoles.

Having to play it only on PS4, the graphics looked very last gen. Even from day 1 I noticed how bad it looked.

Nice addition but what bored me about the game wasn't the blur but the JRPG world being so lifeless, restrictive and static, funnelling you through corridors or basins constantly, where nothing happens beyond enemies or NPCs waiting around. I believe this is the genre standard though, as Xenoblade from the same year is similar. But if you look at other genres their worlds feel more natural and lively. The combat was passable but not as enjoyable as the other Platinum Games classics. Her combat style of having support fire seems to anticipate V in DMC5 but even his combat style has been controversial, certainly not praises as much as the classic DMC.

That's exactly how it happens with all the console games.
Nobody bothers with using some higher tier assets for PCs.

Even games like The Witcher 3 were downgraded for the consoles and never recovered on PC.

FAR is basically essential for Nier PC

So I'm playing Automata, and I'm not really seeing so far how the story is so good like people claimed.
