Fallout 1

>fallout 1
>able to kill anyone, even children
>fallout 4
>can't kill a whole slew of characters because they're "essential to the story"
Why do I have to install mods in order to be able to gun down Inspector Gadget's faggot ass?

you can't kill the overseer until the end of fallout 1

To be fair, in Fallout 2, if you kill anyone in Arroyo, you get a game over.

how about you kill yourself

>bro wtf... why can't I cuck myself out of the main story and other content when I have an autistic rage attack...

Yeah, bro. Why would people want to roleplay in an RPG?

if the unkillable people couldnt become hostile it wouldnt be nearly as bad

Keep huffing Todd's farts you fucking cuckold

>fallout 4

i agree that killing NPC's that are progression tools is a dumb idea, but having a game like this structured that theres exactly one possible way to do it is retarded on its own right. if the quest said NPC is related to is that important there should be at least one other character to do it with alongside a renegade "ill do it myself" option
bethesda is staffed by hack writers though so it forces shit upon you constantly, like how you HAVE to give the faggots in 76 the stupid zombie aids vaccine even though both factions are fucking terrible.

>i agree that killing NPC's that are progression tools is a dumb idea
I don’t care. I want to do it.

it's too complicated, you wouldn't understand

>but having a game like this structured that theres exactly one possible way to do it
In fallout 4 there are multiple main story quests like this lol.

first time doing the dlc, nuka or harbor first?

You are roleplaying as Nate or Nora, they wouldn't kill people randomly.

Obvious bait.

Just because it's an rpg doesn't mean you can rp as anyone you want, especially a murderous psychopath.

New Vegas Essentials
>Kids, because they'd rather not get into that controversy
>The Gun Runners robot in case you kill literally everyone else and need ammo
>Yes Man in case you kill everyone else and need to finish the game

Bethesda
>The fucking diamond city mayor because he's part of some small Institute Quest
>Virgil because he's part of the main story
>The entire minute men squad because they're part of the story
>The companions because they're companions
>Dr Sun because reasons
>The mayor's secretary because she's part of the main story
>Dr Amari because she's part of the main story
I likely missed many but you get the point.

The very fact you have to play as “nate” or “nora” in the first place is fucking retarded

Yeah I don't like it but that's the game, it's not a sandbox when it comes to your character.

Yes Man at least has the lore explanation of being a program that can inhabit a new securitron body whenever its previous one is destroyed

What happened here?
What is OP going on about?

>A good RPG gives you alternate means of completing the main quest without the need for NPCs

>A bad RPG Forces you to follow the story one way and does not allow you to do so on your own.

It's still a GAME, and a roleplaying game- there's a covenant between the player and the Game Master- you play in his game, and you try to play within the structures.

In no DnD/D10/ANYTHING game I've ever roleplayed in, do you have ultimate freedom to just murder anyone and destroy an entire town for fun, and expect the story to not get derailed.

Honestly, if players do that shit, they should expect to die- just have the camera go dark, and say 'eventually, the town guard got a few lucky shots, and killed you all, overwhelming you with numbers.".

Either that or, generally the GM ends the story, guys, and goes "This isnt what I had planned, so, let's wrap it up here, you totally derailed the campaign - and became crazy murderers instead of heroes."

I hope you realize this is a Fallout thread.

I once killed the entire railroad half way through their quest unmodded

Yes, but my point is that you cant expect ultimate freedom and a good story. It's still a game, and a game has rules. There's parallels to GM'ing here, and the developers arent God.

You have to sometimes paint in the lines to make a good picture.

French got really fucked up after HotStreets got canceled didn't he

>ultimate freedom and a good story
Fallout 4 has neither. I

Just let the character be unable to progress in the story, there's no problem with that.

>do you have ultimate freedom to just murder anyone and destroy an entire town for fun, and expect the story to not get derailed.
You can murder everyone in Shady Sands in F1 and still complete the game.

True, but I suppose I personally dont see 'Genocidal Mass Murderer' as a valid story.Murder-hobo, the story? I mean, it's ...'a' playstyle I suppose.

I never tried it. I presume Bounty Hunters come after you if your Karma is low enough?

>This isnt what I had planned
Welcome to Bethesda Fallout, where you’re confined to doing a narrow path that the developers create and not your own way of playing. No killing a black guy LARPing as a colonial, that’s BAD!

First time i saw father, is just blew his brains out. Even before he got to say word. Whole game got fucked up then. You just left your kid in cage and walked out of institute and knew stuff you shouldn't know.

And gun runner bot is inside kiosk whit bullet proof glass.

Why does everyone on Yas Forums think that RPG means "complete sandbox, do whatever you want all the time with no consquences". Thats not what a fucking RPG means you morons, even DND has specific characters you can't kill without ruining the story

In tyranny there is path thast just fucking everyone over and killing them. It's not that hard.

>complaining about not being able to kill a character=complete and total sandbox

Attached: B747C253-0BD0-4D42-915B-B88A37F70D80.jpg (460x519, 57.79K)

So all RPG are DND? So you are playing role and cant play that role in way you wanna? thats gay.

>if i cant kill this character that is important to the plot its not an rpg

Attached: youirl2.jpg (370x349, 30.58K)

>this is your brain on autism
Friendly reminder being an asshole in games is probably a good sign you are either a sociopath or a psychopath and does nothing to enhance gameplay for 99% of players

If your playstyle is just 'murder anything that looks at you funny or dresses funny', why should the writer create a 'rail' for your particular 'genocidal madman' story?

I mean, sure I guess, some people want to live their 'crazy madmen' life, but why play a roleplaying game, then? Why not play GTA or someshit like that?

The story the developers were TRYING to tell, all that content they made, all those quests, all that writing got shit on, because you disliked his clothing. That's just bizarre to me.Maybe roleplaying disliking him, or shitting on the character's clothing, sure. But just shooting him?

>Even DnD has certain characters you can't kill
Maybe your shitty DM pulls that shit but I don't. New Vegas figured out how to let you kill all the named NPCs and complete the game. Fallout 4 doesn't just limit this to a few essential characters either, it restricts you from gunning down roughly 80 percent of the game's cast. From doctors, to merchants, to random pissants in town. One or two essential NPCs would be okay, Fallout 4 has way too many.

>its not an rpg
I never said that you absolutely retarded wojak poster.
