Got this for Christmas and yeah the plot was actually pretty good. Kratos had never been so compelling, that witch chick was pretty good, and the head was entertaining. Gameplay was average to serviceable, content outside of the main plot was mainly all padding with very few truly worthwhile/interesting things to do/see in them, the extra realms are just painful but need to be done if you want the top level stuff, no tits anywhere which is as sin in GoW, XP and armours should not have been in the game at all (the armours were also mostly butt fucking ugly) and the soundtrack was mostly generic as hell, a far cry from the soundtracks in previous titles.
Overall it's not irredeemable trash, but it's very much a Snoy template movie game that's worth playing on the cheap.
That's kind of his point though. The original GoW series didn't waste your time with walking sim narrative bullshit, story was just kind of there to go along with ACTUAL GAMEPLAY. It's a valid criticism because every time a kill is made the blood is toned down, and hell, not everyone even has blood. Most are just fire/ice zombies.
Still, they are the only GOTYs that matter, because they are basically an average.

>play through it and get pretty far >think game is about to end and story is about to wrap up >then I unlock the spartan blades >they have their own entire skill tree and upgrades >game is nowhere near done I'll finish it someday
yeah one thing i'll give this game is that Kratos has a surprisingly tolerable personality. In one of the PSP games he literally drags Midas through lava despite the fact he didn't really do anything to him.
