LOL JUST KIDDING SHINRA ACTUALLY BLEW UP THEIR OWN REACTOR FOR NO REASON AT ALL

I try not to swear much because when I do, I want it to have its intended impact.
Now, having prefaced with that: Holy shit, this the the dumbest fucking game.

This more than anything else in the demo pissed me off.

>FOR NO REASON AT ALL
Wrong, they did it to cause the most damage possible, showing the leadership are psychopaths who care more about how the public will react (this is a Wutai plot) than how many people will die. They still feel guilty for it in the Remake too

What I've heard so far is that there's clear hints in the Japanese original script of the og that Shinra did blow up the first reactor, and that Reeve is kept in the dark because he's a relative newbie.

So it might actually be more canon in FFVIIR than in the English translated original.

imagine being so much of a brainlet you cant follow the plot in a JRPG

George Bush blew up the twin towers for no reason at all.

why is Yas Forums so dumb? Why don't you ever have a brain? Why do you keep disappointing your mom and dad?

Oh it gets worse
Much worse

What are you even talking about?

please stop being mean, that really hurts.

The funniest thing was watching all the shills desperately trying to pretend it was always that way.

brainlets in the original game Jessie mentions she doesn't think the bomb she made could have done that level of damage. It was hinted Shinra did this in the original.

Reminder that when it was just Cloud, Barret, and Aerith as main characters they decided to kill off one of them
>"Cloud's the main character, so you can't really kill him. And Barret... well, that's maybe too obvious."

You really are a failure, you're so stupid you can't even sell your body. Even a homeless person would buy you a book and beg you to read because you're that stupid.

GET READY FOR THIS TO BE RUINED, TOO

That's what the shills have been saying since the first datamine leak. Funny there's still no excerpt or screenshot of this claim months later. Almost like it's complete bullshit.

didnt know in the remake shinra was going to blow up the reactor regardless of avalanche intervention

I thought the baddies just thought that avalanche showing up was convenient and went for it.

How will they handwave the fact that Tifa got stabbed through the gut yet has no scar or anything

how do you miss the clear and obvious intent of Shinra to purposefully exacerbating the damage to undermine avalanche's support and message? Like say, if you knew terrorists were going to fly a building into the pentagon, so you flew two more into a civilian target like the twin to kill actual people rather than just bugmen are being killed & attain popular support for war

It's more that Shinra pushed the destruction up. it's a false flag. They make the acts of terrorism lethal for the people, and not just industrial sabotage. Then, they get the excuse to roll out whatever military force they please, with public approval. Is it the best written example of this in media? Absolutely not. But it's alright. Just because you don't understand the nuance of politics, doesn't make it bad. Especially given that there are plenty of other valid criticisms for the entire game.

It's going to be a boss fight.

I'm pretty sure that's only true in FF7R and not in the original game.

No, it was hinted she was an amateur.

She also wonders if she fucked up the bomb so you cant tell if Jessie overdone the explosion or Shinra actually did it

This would have held more weight if it hadn't been said by Cait who has just taken Marlene hostage.

nope, can't have characters that arent perfect!

I understood all of this. That doesn't mean I have to like it - instead of showing that AVALANCHE is a morally ambiguous group of eco-terrorists who either don't care about collateral damage or things have gotten so bad they've been pushed to this level of extremism, all of which later serves Barett's character development, is instead spun into another SHINRA BAD moment

I have yet to play the remake.
What exactly did they change?

I didn't know Bush Jr was a fan of ff7.
Now it all makes sense.

>Cait Sith announcing his return halfway through Cloud beating the shit out of her
Please bring this back

Jessie was a clumsy dork in the original game. She trips multiple times, gets her leg stuck during the opening bombing mission, and screws up the fake IDs that Avalanche used to board the train in the second bombing mission. Hell, Avalanche in general were a bunch of goofy screw-ups. To have Shinra suddenly be responsible for this is stupid.

Jesse fucked up all the time in the original.

And yet he didn't harm her, unlike Avalanche who killed hundreds of innocents.

I mean, Shinra IS bad, though. All their moral ambiguity really comes from the fact that like any conflict, it's fought by people. All the soldiers, guards, scientists, whatever that kept swept up in it and hurt or killed my have had the same little to no choice in what they had to do as our protagonists. Being on the other side of a war doesn't make you wrong. And bringing that up also questions the validity of killing. I think it's a really good depiction of the monsters that corporations, and power for the sake of power produce.

Except they LET Avalanche blow it up so they could say they worked with Wutai, probably because they want to invade their land.

The bomb Cloud and Barret set in the Sector 1 reactor is basically a dud and instead President Shinra orders Heidegger to have all the Sweepers and Gun turrets turn their weapons on the reactor blow it up, which causes all the collateral damage and civilian deaths in Sector 1

Square probably thought having the heroes be terrorists was too problematic nowadays

They found FFVII in Bin Laden’s bunker.

I wonder if he ever came to Tifa.

The callous indifference and cruelty of Shinra is depicted many, many times throughout the game. We didn't need yet another one at the expense of making the protagonists less interesting.

Sephiroth and seemingly Aerith know how the game plays out like it's NG+ and Sephiroth tries to change how the game plays out but then the ghosts of canon show up and try to stop him. Hojo tells Cloud he's not a SOLDIER? Ghosts throw him out of the room so he'll stop spoiling. Wedge survives? Ghosts throw him out a window hours later. Cloud wants to kill Reno? Ghosts throw Cloud out of the room. At the end of the game you fight the ghosts and kill them, freeing the remake of expectations of being faithful. Then alternate timelines and parallel universes are introduced and the characters break the fourth wall and not so subtly tell the player that the next games in the remake project will barely adhere to the original story at all.

The bombs were the centerpiece of it, though. It was the first major proof of it all. Remember that we didn't really see what the slums were like until after all of that occurred. So don't let what you find out after inform your opinion on the former.

Dementors from Harry Potter mess with the cast to stop them from changing time. Sephiroth already knows the events of the original game and is trying to get Cloud to join him to change the future.
