The worst thing is how the entire atmosphere has changed from "you can do literally anything you want" to "you can only have fun in these extremely specific, narrow ways we have approved in our tightly controlled online closed environment, and if you do anything we don't think you should like, we will ban you and steal your money". It's gotten so bad that nowadays I'm worried about naming my characters FaggotNigger in SINGLE PLAYER GAMES out of fear that there's some hidden online component that causes me to be remotely banned. That kind of "what if somebody is watching" fear is not an environment suitable for experiencing fun or joy; it's more akin to a prison.

There's other shit too but this is really the big one. Games were consequence-free antisocial environments and that was the source of their fun. They need to be that again, instead of being reduced to yet another public social space where you have to beg for normies' approval.
