Pirate and Toy Dream are god tier Mario party boards. You're right about the minigames though.
4 and 6 are my personal favourites. 4 is basically a direct sequel to 3 while 6 is more of its own thing.

the feel

Fucking based. Had some growing pains with the introduction of the Capsule Space mechanic (6 refined most of them, and is probably the stronger game overall) but damn, I definitely had a blast with this entry.

4 is the one that's definitely most in-line with the Gamecube ones, but for my tastes it's a LITTLE bland. 5, 6, and 7 can almost be seen as a trilogy since 5 invented the Capsule Spaces.

5, as I said, introduced the new mechanic but also brought some issues with it (why are you able to use trap Capsules like Piranha Plant on yourself?). 6 refined them and is the stronger game, but also has some slightly more gimmicky boards (ie, everyone starts off with 5 Stars and the goal is to spend the entire match stealing them from one another with Chain Chomps). 7 has some fantastic Mini-Games and Boars (even the gimmicky ones), but it definitely has some of the worst production values (compare how water looks in 4 to how it looks in 7) and the changes they made to Bonus Stars/Duel Mini-Games were HUGE mistakes.

I wouldn't really say there's a definitive best Mario Party as there is more a spectrum from good to bad. 5 is on the lower end, but not too low, at least in my eyes. My personal favorite is 6. The boards in that one are very dynamic and engaging because of the switching between day and night and it really keeps you on your toes because day and night typically switch up the star getting mechanics. It allows for a bit of strategy. It's the one my boys and I play when we're at my place and definitely my favorite of the bunch.

4 is so bland. Sure it's the one that's most like 2 and 3 but then while I'm playing it I feel like I could be having more fun playing 2 or 3 instead. At least 5 6 and 7 each all have their own unique things and identity to make them worth playing. Also 4 is obnoxiously slow and the way all the boards are the same square layout on top of a floating metal boardwalk is soulless.

Exactly, it's one of those things where when you describe it, the mechanics make it *sound* like the best Mario Party, but it feels pretty mundane when actually playing it.

4 also doesn't have Duels (it has 1v1 Boss Mini-Games against the hosts of each respective board, and MPTop100 took those and used them as Duels, however).

6 is fun but the night and day mechanic is very frustrating to new players who don't know the board mechanics. I played 3 a loooooooong time ago and i remember the boards seem fun and thematic with lots of items that was fun to use.
