well yeah, the story's going in a different direction. Part 2 is going to end on the cliffhanger of Cloud being killed by __Lavos__ and Part 3 is going to be about bringing them back with the help of the time squad.

Final fight will be Cloudiroth (fusion of Sephiroth and Cloud) together with Zack against a Shadow Sora mind controlled by Genesis
Instead of Aeris dying at the end of game two it'll be Cloud who gets impaled trying to save her. Game 3 will be about trying to get Cloud back from the lifestream or some shit. The PTSD parts of him in a wheelchair will be removed and changed to this for being too silly to be in the modern take of this story.

the difference is pretty simple. xii, xiii and xv were directed by hacks. 7r is being directed by a genius.

Genuinely, even if you HATE the new stuff you should be very excited from some fun action RPGs coming. Nomura may have some idiotic story ideas but his games are always clean and play at least very well.
Why would he kill Cloud? He canonically depends on Cloud's ass to keep existing. If Cloud kicks the bucket his "link" will go away and he will get fucked. There is a reason why he talks about how he will not allow himself to disappear, but how he will not allow Cloud to disappear either. Because if Cloud dies, it's endgame for him too.
Hm alright so nothing to do with a good story. It's good that the developers didn't think like that in the original.

He obviously wouldn't be trying to kill Cloud but I can definitely see the ending of the second game being changed (much like this one) where Cloud tries saving Aeris in the icronic scene and gets accidentally killed instead.
Cloud will be the final boss.
It will be the ultimate "fuck you" to ff7 fans.
Cloud will have a breakdown after Zack shows up and leave the group. Zack will join the party and become the new main character to replace him. The party ends up liking Zack more than Cloud because he's actually a cool guy, so Tifa doesnt go with Cloud to bring him out of his breakdown.. Since Tifa isnt around, Cloud will just descend into psychosis, mirroring Sephiroth's descent at the shinra mansion in the original. Once you get to the northern cave you'll find Cloud all jenova'd up and ready to destroy the world. Sephiroth will show up and make a heroic sacrifice so you can deliver the killing blow.
