give him an actual flamethrower that shoots jets of flaming liquid, consumes ammo very quickly, and limits movement speed similar to the minigun, but has drop off and sticks to surfaces where it will burn for a few seconds.
Basically give him an actual flame thrower instead of the dumb propane shit he has now.

Anti-sniper maybe? Like if you're behind a friendly Pyro's flames you can't be headshotted?
It's retarded, scratch that, but the point is he needs more gimmicks to be helpful and score points. Do anything that makes him better at killing and you got yourself an OP braindead class, so the changes have to be to add gimmicks.
They should've just made the flamethrower a glorified short range lightning gun from the start.

Pryo can also be anti sapper and already can be anti sniper using scorch shot or other fire ball secondaries
Just make the flamethrower hitscan already. Source hitboxes are bad enough. Don't add crazy momentum based (and ping modified) particles on top of that.
That doesn't mean much, Spy's garbage anyways I shouldn't have mentioned spychecking.
If I'm Engi I'd rather have a Pyro airblasting Demo stickies and nades than thinking about spies, to be honest.
Either this or give it a melee weapon that gives the same mobility options as the detonator. The pyro's problem has always been that it sucks at its supposed job of flanking and ambushing.
While we're at it make the Dragon's Fury's airblast work like stock so that the weapon can be a flamethrower but for people who can aim.
The flamethrower currently still uses a particle based system to determine how many ticks of damage it does to you in a burst and how long you should be set on fire. I know Jungle Inferno "fixed" the particle system but it is still a wide system that can be exploited by both the pyro and the enemy to get a desirable outcome for themselves. Having it be a tighter cone and based on "hit scan" rather than relying entirely on the particles would improve a lot of the problems with the flame part of the flamethrower. From there, you can focus on fixing all the airblast bugs and improve pyro's side unlocks.
I mean pyro can do both it's just a quick swap to melee

You would need to lower the DPS a little but yeah this is the right idea, I would still keep most every other flamethrower particle based, Phlog especially benefits from the ability to penetrate and hit multiple enemies.
Doesn't need buffs. They just need to fix the collision glitches.
That doesn't solve Pyro literally not being able to win in the open against a good Scout, no matter how good the Pyro is
It does need buffs. It's incredibly mediocre.
Good. Why should pyro be good in the open? Pyro should be the one to help hold down the flank routes like a roamer soldier except not as aggressive.
