I'm about to play this game for the first time. One of my main issues with Persona 3 was the lack of group interactions and the lack of content in the life simulation elements. The graphics were also not great and the camera and lack of complexity in the engine just made it feel like a low-budget PSP game. As a result the immersion suffered and I felt like the life simulation half of the game wasn't very interesting. Yukari, Junpei, and Akihiko were great though, and the music was good, but it wasn't enough for me to put the 80 hours into the game to beat it especially with the tedious gameplay.
Does Persona 5 expand on this by making the life simulation elements more immersive, and does it actually make the player feel like they're a part of a group? In P3 the characters seemed distant and there wasn't anything interesting going on, they all lived at the same dorm, there wasn't a lot of interactions, they just fought shadows together and occasionally pretended to be friends. The world wasn't very much worth exploring either. Basically I am asking does this game dial up the dating sim elements and the weeb factor to be more attractive to a friendless loser like me than Persona 3?
Yes, the gameplay is miles ahead either way. for the best characters and interactions between them, check persona 4. 5's cast was ok too, but if those are your complaints about P3, it's safe to say you will find a lot to like about P5.
also get the fuck out of Yas Forums unless you want to be spoiled of everything that happens in the game
Eli Anderson
>playing royal first instead of OG 5 cringe
Blake Gray
I would play 4 but I still can't get over P3's camera and low graphic fidelity it's left a sour taste in my mouth. P5 actually looks like a proper 3D game with the camera behind the shoulder and a visual artstyle that pops.
Elijah Collins
Yes, they actually feel like friends. It’s miles better above 3.
If you thought the P3 cast felt distant then you'll hate 5. Barely any group interactions and the characters just exist to suck off Joker. The P3 cast was actually independent and interacted with one another even when Door-kun wasn't around. Not the case for 5.
Dominic Ramirez
You’re an idiot. There’s MANY times when they’re not talking to Joker, and they added even more in Royal. You’re thinking about P4.
You're exaggerating. P5 could have done with more slice of life/group activity stuff but there's still quite a few scenes where the characters hang out an certain pairings (Ryuji/Ann, Yuske/Futaba, Ann/Makoto, Morgana/Ryuji, Ann/Ryuji, Makoto/Ryuji) play off of eachother every so often. Not to mention all the hangouts after succcessful heists where the whole group just hangs out.
Aaron Bennett
>the lack of group interactions in P3 your teammates don't give a flying fuck about the MC. In P4 they went way overboard and everybody sucks MC dick for no reason. In P5 tho I feel like it's decently balanced. Maybe the only bad ones are futaba and kasumi if you're playing P5R, because they both like the MC for no reason. >life simulation elements There way more shit to do in P5 and even more in P5R, whether that's more immersive or not is subjective tho.
Jeremiah Watson
Yusuke might be one of the most autistic supporting characters in any video game ever
Joseph Howard
Don’t date Kasumi, he is a trap/otokonono.
Xavier Ward
> because they both like the MC for no reason. It isn't. Go play the game
Brody Wilson
>in P3 your teammates don't give a flying fuck about the MC I liked this. I just didn't like that despite that there wasn't much dialogue, story, events, etc. Probably cause they all lived at the same dorm, so there was no going to each other's houses or anything. And they didn't have a hangout spot outside of the dorm.
>There way more shit to do in P5 and even more in P5R, whether that's more immersive or not is subjective tho. Like minigames? I love Yakuza by the way so would you say that P5 feels more like a high-budget Yakuza title than P3? It certainly seems so.
Ann/Ryuji is one of the most interesting friendships in the game. They’ve been through the same awful stuff so they really connect on a certain level but on the other hand they bicker a lot, though not as much as Ryuji/Mona.
Lincoln Morales
yusuke and futaba really connect too. it’s not touched upon that much but she trusts yusuke almost as much as joker.
Christian Wright
There really aren’t any mini games in 5, just darts. But there are lots of different ways to increase your stats and hang out with your social links
Ethan Rodriguez
I did. 4 times actually (2 japanese release, 2 western) and I'm playing P5R right now.
Kasumi just likes him because "he almost gave his seat to some lady on the train" and futaba just suddenly clings to you and goes all "I can't do shit without you" for literally no reason.
It's not like joker did more to save her than the rest of the team. They all saved her together, but for whatever reason she clings to the MC. I haven't played yakuza so I wouldn't know. There are two actual minigames in P5R: Darts and cards, but the cards one is not like really part of the game per se.
When I said there was more stuff to do, I meant activities to increase social attributes and relationship with the other characters.
Jaxon Hill
Id just say futaba sees joker as a brother figure since he’s staying with her father figure
Jason Myers
Just curious, without giving too much away, is Kasumi basically the new Haru in terms of (he joined too late so no one really gets to connect with him)?
Jace Murphy
>Kasumi just likes him because "he almost gave his seat to some lady on the train" Continue playing the game, it's explained why.
William Ramirez
Not really as kasumis social link is available really early into the game and she has lots of small scenes sprinkled in through the main plot
Juan Torres
You interact with her pretty often right from the start, but so far she hasn't joined the team (for a kinda dumb reason) and I already cleared a little more than half of the game (assuming is as long as P5)
Angel Edwards
She gets interactions throughout the game but she only really interacts with Joker. They could've given Haru a similar treatment to make her less shit but didn't.
Christian Cruz
>They could've given Haru a similar treatment They did.
David Ward
It’s like 2 scenes and cameos throughout the map and that’s it.
Asher Sullivan
Sounds like you'll like P5 a lot then.
Personally the chars in P5 were too friendly for how little they knew each other. I liked the dynamic more in P3, where everyone acted quite distant and even confrontational at times, until later in the story after they've actually gone through some shit together. It's funny that you call P3 not immersive even though your party members act like normal humans, not immediately becoming BFFs because they have Personas and colorful hair.
Easton Clark
not really. I just cleared Okumura and the only new scene with her was when they went to clean the park, and it doesn't even count as interaction.
I saw her in the background in a couple of scenes but that's it.
Kayden White
That's fine. There's no reason for her to appear more than that.
They became BFFs because they all have relatable struggles. In P3 it’s like a rag-tag team of strangers.
Sebastian Diaz
you said that they gave her the same treatment as Kasumi tho, which is obviously not true.
>There's no reason for her to appear more than that. Considering she is the only one (not counting Kasumi for obvious reasons) to actually like the MC romantically from the start and the only one to confess the MC, they should expand her character more.
They don't though. All of them go through very different, but tangentially related things. How can Yusuke relate to Haru nearly being the victim of rape? How can Futaba relate to Makoto being pressured by the school to live up to her sister? How can Ryuji relate to Ann being groomed by a grown man?

does the p5 royal content happen before or after p5's original final boss?
Benjamin Davis
yes
Liam Morris
The big story arc is post original final boss, but it is setup throughout the entire base game.
Evan Reyes
Vast majority of the new stuff happens after Yaldabaoth. Prior to that Royal is like 90% identical to the original game.
