I bought an R4i Gold years ago, and some games had issues with it - notably, I couldn't even play Pokemon HGSS or B2W2. Yet they work perfectly with this.

Really? Those games work perfectly on my R4 card with no issue. Only game that had an issue was Chrono Trigger DS, but even that I just needed an Action Replay code to bypass the anti piracy measures.

Yeah, in retrospect, I bought a shitty card. It was even timebombed. But it still made for a great alternative.
If your R4 works fine, you should keep using it. Maybe pick up TwilightMenu anyways for some of its included features, since it works with roms off of flashcards too.

This. I lucked out and got a white one and got the Monster Hunter Generations faceplates for it. It was worth it. The white is nice since it resembles the Super Famicom's color scheme since the face buttons(ABXY) are the exact same colors as on the SFC controller plus the SFC is white, the white standard New 3DS really matches the SFC.
