Some like Torna's gameplay better, but you get forced to do all the shitty sidequest to progress in the story.
Play on bringer of chaos and challenge mode. The game really is too fucking complex to fully appreciate in normal difficulty. Every blade has different special powers which you need to appropriately enhance and adapt depending on the fight with aux cores. There is a shitton to do and different things to keep timing on.
I've only played MCC and the AI in legendary is exceptionally reactive, it makes the game feel pretty alive.

It's more obtuse than it is complex, with most of it being the ridiculous amount of bullshit designed to waste as much of your time as possible. The actual combat isn't that complicated.
