Removing complaints about changes made from the original, what makes REMAKE bad in your opinion? I'm genuinely curious because almost all the hate I see is about the plot differences from the original. Removing that I'm curious to see what peoples complaints are.

Easy for foreground objects in the environment to block the camera during battle, generic fetch quests, padding/repetitive level design (turn off sun lamps three times, collect keycards five times, use robot arms 3-5 times, etc.)

nothing

Do you think it has much more then of that then the original? I recall a lot of 'padding' in the original but back then we called it world building.

Low res textures.

Battles mostly devolved into slideshows. ie you spent more time fiddling through the "quick" menu than doing combos.

Pointless mmo quests. I'd rather grind random mobs than walk back and forth across the map.

Also the forced walking sections and tight crevices to hide loading screens, feels even worse than Uncharted

anything storywise aside, i couldn't give a fuck about the game when i saw the it was gonna be more modern FF combat

As a person who loved the game this was one of the few things that actually bothered me.

The game would havr been perfectly fine if it had not included the ghosts and Sephiroth. It's my only real complaint, but it's big enough for me to hate it.

The game feels like it expects you to play the original to fully enjoy it.

nothing when the game followed the og story it was borderline magical and a true successor... to bad they had to shit the bed in the end. also the combat might be the best shit in gaming

I want to fuck Cloud's sweet boipussy.

The fact you don't get to kiss Andrea breaks the game for me.

Considering it might be the biggest backlash the game has gotten I expect it to be toned down a bit in the next games without being abandoned completely. I like the twist to the series but I also Metal Gear Solid games and their often criticized stories.

I know assets and budget are finite so it's not like they can cook up new shit for every corner and all, but I feel like in "expanding Midgar" they really just meant the same core areas made bigger, a couple new spaces that amounted to a surface glance, and then expanding every dungeon/dangerous route into an hour long haul with no allowance for any diversion. It was a massive waste, like they wanted to actually make genuinely new things as little as humanly possible and just trudged up the playtime with padding and awkward extensions.

>The game feels like it expects you to play the original to fully enjoy it.
It does. It's how they intended to get people who have played this game 20+ years ago interested.

Nice stealth oneyng thread.

It's literally just people who are upset that the world is changing taking out their anger on the fact that this wasnt just the original with updated graphics. What they added were massive improvements to anyone with an objective sense.

it's not turn based

test

Turn on classic mode

>alter the game so you can expand upon it and have tons more content then what already exists

I bet you guys hated Crisis Core too.

It's annoying in combat that you can be smacked before using a spell which negates it, uses MP AND uses an ATB charge. Died near the end of a long ass boss fight because a vital heal was cancelled which left me with no ATB and was promptly stunlocked to death. Also the fact that limit breaks can miss grinds my gears.

They assumed people would prefer that to constant 10 second leading screens

The story changes are the only thing that's outright BAD but they're a huge problem. There are other faults though that drag the game from "still great except for that ending" to merely okay. For me the biggest problem is that it's very padded. The narrow corridors get brought up a lot and those are a problem, but much worse than that, there are lots of sloooow walking sequences where you have to follow somebody who is just dragging their ass taking their sweet time. It's very boring. I'm still in the first half of the game but this stuff has popped up every chapter it seems like.

Also, the graphics aren't up to snuff. NPC speaking animations are generally quite terrible, and as many people have noted, there are some hideously ugly textures and smaller models, usually in the towns. They look like when a scene hasn't loaded in all the way yet, as if someone turned the LOD slider all the way down. This will probably get patched out eventually (probably not anytime soon due to coronavirus) but it's very distracting and always takes me out of the experience.

Overall I'd give the game a 7.

Awful visuals, terrible NPC design and animations, terrible sidequests, linear hallway corridors and "gameplay" segments which stretch on for far too long, barely expanding upon Midgar outside of Wall Market (which was good) and a single (small) new sector section. Overall the pacing is pretty terrible which is a damn shame since the pacing of Midgar in the original was the best part about the whole segment, and 7R doesn't expand enough on the city to really feel justified in taking the episodic model.

It's the best FF since FFX inspite of the dementors, but that's not a difficult achievement... my complains (could be minor or major)

Materia description is unnecessarily vague for a couple of materias
> enemy skill is the biggest offender of point 1. Enemy's access says i could learn a skill from this alien monster in the expressway, turns out you cant learn shit from him. And the ones I could, dont even have the extra description that says i could learn a skill from them.
Summoning Materia
> I was a backseat gamer, watching my bro playing og ff7 as a kid. But... is this how it was in the original? Summoning materia in terms of context, feels like an after thought, whereas the ones i played. Ffix, ffx, ffxiii, ffxv all had summonings work into their main storylines.
Side Quest
> Side Quest is part of the Main Quest. Unbelievable. It's just as lazy as other modern FF. Good thing it's not as jarring as ffxv was.
Graphics
> Those textures...I really thought this was only happening to me cause my ps4 is old as fuck, and i rarely touch it nowadays to the point it's been collecting dust. Fuck me, i can believe this shit's happening everywhere.

Rightfully so I might add.

>best combat in FF history
>filters weebs
>filters plot trannies
This is honestly my favorite game in the franchise

Still though I feel like it did a horrible job as a “remake” if you need to play the original to fully enjoy it. You don’t need to play the original resident evil games to enjoy the remake

Oh, another thing is that a lot of sidequests seem to involve a lot of just walking back and forth to find what you're looking for. It's extremely monotonous.

The "death" scenes of Jessie and Biggs go on for ages when you're supposed to be in a hurry to get to the top.
So much padding. Any time you do monkey bars, that robot hand, Hojo's lab etc.
Enemies/bosses that are just sponges.
No blood anywhere.

>It's how they intended to get people who have played this game 20+ years ago interested.
They were already interested.

yes
everything they've done since the original has been trash

The "fleshing out" is just a bunch of fetch quests. It's fun but at the same time boring. I like both though for different reasons. They should be considered two different timelines honestly.

turn based jobbers getting filtered

Yet I bet those sections take the same amount of time on an HDD PS4 compared to an SSD PS4 Pro.

You didnt play it

- side quests are boring MMO tier padding.
- forced walking/slow moving state sections,
- some textures look like shit
- many of the NPC look out of place (or make our main cast look out of place by comparison)
- rule of cool
- putting summons into lazy VR world instead of interesting places

You can always tell when someone who didnt play the game is just repeating meme lies that read on Yas Forums

Attached: ArEBSUM3-498717513.jpg (2048x1152, 239.82K)

They should have remade the whole game, not just Midgar with pointless fetch quests and new cringe characters like that motorbike loser

I feel like it was intended to be an entry to the series for newcomers while giving something to the people who played in forever ago. Obviously not everyone liked the idea.

>post an image that just elaborates exactly what he said about the Wall Market

Yea, I don't get people saying it was linear. if anything it was more annoying because it wasn't linear though, most of the exploration in the game rewards you with 2 potions. Felt pointless to look everywhere.

Well if we can't rag on the idiotic ghosts and the ending,

my biggest complaint would be the railroading that occurs. Like there's this thing about to happen and you must be there. So Cloud starts walking real slow and the camera focuses on that place and it begins once you approached enough.

I'd rather have it so that the game remarks how something there is about to happen and then wait for you to approach and press interact to kick off the event.

You expect Yas Forums shills to play the game they shill?

But for newcomers the story makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. You have to have played at least FF7 for it to make even the slightest of sense. It does not hold up on its own.

>linear hallway corridors and "gameplay" segments
It's like a 1/10th of the game and it's the same linear sections as the original

You're being disingenuous if you think the OG FF7 had the kind of monotonous padding that nuFF7 has. The difference between both their Shinra sections are night and day, you did a lot more varied activities (both mandatory and optional) in the original versus the already used AND mandatory battle arena in the new Shinra.

>I recall a lot of 'padding' in the original
You're such an disingenuous fuck holy shit lol

>classic mode = turn based
Never go full potato user!

newcomers won't understand shit

Awful visuals?? Damn. I guess anything above ps1 graphics looks good to me

I mean, yeah you did but the original was much more focused on world building. As another user mentioned, the slums in the original were far more creative, everyday items repurposed as homes shops etc. Now it's just a regular brazilian favela. Stylization is gone. You could take the cast out of the game and you wouldn't be able to distinguish it between something like Sleeping Dogs. Also, how does: kill x goons, gather x kids help with world building? Also the animations and npc models are genuinely terrible and I hope that they are just leftovers from CyberConnect and will be gone by part 2, though knowing Square it's unlikely. Also some music tracks are worse than the original but overall it's a great soundtrack.

See, FF7 was linear, we all know that. The problem is that linearity becomes extremely apparent when you trudge your way through fuck long dungeons that aren't even dungeons but just more linear tracks. 10-20 minute areas have been expounded into hour long things that use cutscenes, dialogue and combat to hide the fact that you're just going down a pathway and occasionally doing things along it. It wouldn't be so blatant if it wasn't so goddamn extended, some of this stuff could've been cut in half in length (and, you know, REMOVE THE SEWER REVISIT) and it would've helped the game flow. But they had to pad out even the dungeon areas for touting it's worth the play time.

Until you mention the original I could swear you were describing it

Hojo's lab does nothing for world building. If anything it makes the Shinra building make far less sense, since you go up/down a lot. How many floors are supposed to be for his lab anyway?

Ghost trainyard story does not add anything significant to the world, just a weird connection so Tifa can remember Marlene exists I guess? It was just padding.

The robot hand minigame does not add anything and is not an interesting puzzle. It's just slow to pad for time. It is also not world building.

I hope anyone who disliked the REMAKE played through the original again right after just to see if their rose tinted goggles are on or off.

Narratively the game is meaningless and emotionless. They pull every punch they can, make death cheesy as hell, and then they bring people back to life. It's drivel and I can't help but make the comparison to the original, it's an insult.

The AI will cover the action for you and you can focus on ATB commands, how is that not just the original? Weapon abilities = attack

Seconding all of these. I’d also like to add the brain dead AI. They did this to promote switching and/or commanding, but it’s annoying to say the least.

The only people who defend the story are either shills, shitposters or anime fans. Only anime fans could actually like this level of schlock, their standards for storytelling are so damn low.

Because Classic Mode is using Easy statistics, so there's no difficulty.

I replayed the OG before playing the remake.

Never played the original version, but I find this game quite hard on Normal.

I have about 2000 HP but regularly get hit for huge amounts of damage and die in like 4 hits. My attacks have no impact or stagger and I have to waste most of my ATB Bars on healing myself instead of using Skills for damage. Took me like 30 minutes to kill the Hell House because I had to keep wasting my Bars on using Items to Heal up and wait for the damn thing to stop being Invulnerable so I could slam it with a spell it's weak to.

No matter how many times we will have these threads, its always the same shit.

It's like FF7Rcucks can't grasp the fact that this isn't what was promised years ago and that this game is not faithful to the original at all. It's not that complicated. But no, we are expected to CONSUME AND CONSUME without asking questions or even give valid criticism.

No I didn't ask for time travel, alternate dimensions or Time Ghosts. They weren't in the original. Why the fuck should they be in the remake?

>J-JUST PLAY THE ORIGINAL

Ah yes the most common way to deflect criticism. Except that we were promised a remake or the original. Why the fuck would I play the Original when I was promised the original game brought up to modern standards?

I'm not even mad. I'm just tired of this shit.

It's like I can program these shill responses into a god damn algorithm. And yes, the reason I'm saying shill and not just someone who doesn't agree is because you're blatantly fucking lying calling these FFXIII hallways the same thing as OG's Midgar

I wouldn't expect anything less at this point 2bh

idc about the remake, but i hope they manage to extract redxiii model and use it in sfm porn

Despite mr shill swarming you with his usual “hurt you didn’t play it shit” (he does that in every thread), you’re completely correct

You're supposed to fuck up his arms when they pop out.

>all these streamers that don't even bat an eye when the time jannies crash the Reno scene in the church
All I want is one 'what the fuck?'

Attached: 1537717439734.jpg (210x240, 9.23K)

Speaking of:

I thought RedXIII was really fucking cool, seeing how use al the classic attack and movement animations. I only ended being more pissed he wasn't a playable party member.

So basically you're just upset you got tricked? Fair point. I've been used to that shit since MGS2 came out. Nothing IMO will ever top that blowback and ironically years later everyone finally realized MGS2 was probably the best in the series.

>You could take the cast out of the game and you wouldn't be able to distinguish it between something like Sleeping Dogs.
Man, fucking this. The city looks like a normal ass city, the infrastructure looks like something you could find today, as do the NPCs. I’m convinced these were just bought assets

are they going to patch out the loading corridors in 6 months when NVME SSDs are standard issue in consoles? No? Then it's shit.

Eh. You do you, I got into MGS2 long after the controversy, but it's probably one of the most boring games for me. Fun gameplay that ends up underutilized in favor of backtracking to a degree that makes MGS1 look reasonable.

Lots of padding ruins the pacing. You could easily shave off at least ten hours and make it feel way better.

It ruins the plot thematically that avalanche didn't cause the damage to the town/reactor.

Sephiroth shouldn't appear at all and Cloud mako spergs every 10 minutes.

The atmosphere is way too light both lighting and story. For example avalnche was by themselves for a reason. It was to accentuate how hopeless their quest was.

Characters not really dying after all ruins all plot tension.

That's just a few of course the shinra tower and ending is a travesty but i can't be assed to write more.

It's not that the original is perfect or didn't need any kind of remaking, it's that this new version came close to reigniting that magic only to just take a massive left turn into retardville in the last hour

The primary issue isn't plot differences, but the fact that Nomura is trying to do MGS2 and have the remake be self-aware that it is a remake while injecting Kingdom Hearts themes into the game.
When plot differences occur, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

The biggest revelation in regards to MGS was understanding that Kojima had a team of writers under him that basically turned his ideas into a coherent, working story and that when he is in charge of story (MGS4 and 5) it's fucking underwhelming.

Also the story about the translator for MGS2 saying he had to unfuck so much it's unbeliavable what a contrived shitpile the original MGS2 script is.

Nothing wrong with changing shit to appeal to a new audience. The beginning of the Re3 remake is completely different. But if you have to relay on the player playing the original, you fucked up as a remake/adaptation.
This is like those movie adaptations where you have to read the books to fully understand what’s going on.

I think the combat is shit. It's like an amalgamation of action and turn based RPG without being good at either. No depth.

A lot of the responses you see in threads are literally just one dude. He makes the same arguments over and over, never shifting his syntax or wording. If ignored, he starts blatantly samefagging, posting similar stand-alone comments about Tortanic, blaming Yas Forums, claiming no one played it, and shit until he gets (you)s. Pretty sure it was the same guy who was insisting their was no time travel and we only thought that due to out of context webms

>you didn't play it
>hmmmm those complaints could be for either the original or this game I can't even tell ;3
It's really the worst, most pathetic kind of shilling. And he's in almost every thread and it's so obvious that it's him.
