What went oh so wrong?
Birth by Sleep

No capes
turns out forcing the player to play the whole game with each character doesn't go well with rpg games
It was just the star wars prequels with minne mouse
Unironically the best game in the series.
it didn't remain a self contained story or as set up for a separate saga. trying to hack terra/aqua/ven's story into the mainline plot was a huge mistake.
the boss designs were for the most part pretty aweful too, but the core gameplay with just a few tweaks is pretty brilliant for a handheld.
This mortherfucker
No, it's perfect, you just have bad taste.
KH1 > KH2 > KH3 > 358/2 Days > Birth By Sleep > Dream Drop Distance > 2.8 Fragmentary Passage > Chain of Memories > ReCoded > Mobile shit
The OG game is the best in the series.
The original KH trilogy:
KH, CoM, KH2
(neat closure for Sora and Riku’s first adventure)
The hacking-in sidegames bullshit trilogy:
BBS, DDD, KH3
(neat closure for all the new characters, Sora & co as instruments for that end)
Not with that atrocious gameplay and PSX Tomb Raider-tier controls.
fuck off retard, kh2 was a shitty action game where you pressed trianlge to win, not my fault you're too shit to play the original superior game
Command deck and making keyblade combat absolutely useless.
There’s a lot more but there’s the big two
imagine playing kh2 on normal
Yeah I'm sure KH1's Curespam was so much better than KH2's gameplay.
But the gameplay is good. It's got nice and weighty attacks, the tech points encourage you to counter enemies, magic and limits have theirs uses depending on the situation, the bosses are (for the most part) cool and the level design facilitated exploration. It's great.
You just described the command deck man.
Sure KH2 ain’t perfect but at least the games allows you to play smart with all of your combat options because they’re all balanced relatively well.
BBS on the other hand, it’s an absolute chore to go through the game without relying on the command deck to nuke rooms of enemies with magnet/thunder or whatever. That’s sort of a thing in KH2, but at least it comes at a cost of MP, whereas with haste abilities, the command deck is a free resource.
Need more proof of BBS’ shit design? Play any superboss with Terra without surges or mine commands. It’s an unfun slog.
Absolute kino.
its funny because gameplay wise Coded thrashes all other handheld titles, shame its story is filler and 30 mins of tieing up the rest of the stories loose ends before DDD
its obviously limited by the platform its on but overall i think its good
The story in Kingdom Hearts was already bad, but this is the game that pushed it over the edge.
Osaka team.
BBS was awesome. It had cool abilities that actually stood out from the same fire/blizzard/thunder shit that's in every other entry.
What went wrong story-wise is that it opened the story up from the contained arc of the first three games and allowed for it to become a completely retarded mess in DDD and 3. It also sucked that every character got the same keyblades.
This is the first KH game I played and I actually loved it.
I remember someone telling me that once you beat all three stories you actually unlock Mickey as well and I was really disappointed when that didnt happen.
I only recently played 1 which was ok, and then 2 which I never finished. Need to get back at it.
Fukken dodge rolls. Oh, and Nomura.
Still best game in the franchise.
It perfected the combat to actually utilize the decks, had great movements and each story was great design wise, in terms of everyone meeting different characters.
If KH3 would've been BBS2, it would ve been 10000x better
>days that high
I am so sick and tired of all these shit eating waifufagging mongoloids who think that days is in any fucking way passable when the gameplay is by far the worst in the franchise and story is complete garbage even for kh standards.
>play any superboss without utilising the stronger attacks its build around and its an unfun slog
holy shit user! please tell me more about this revelation of yours! could it be that superbosses in games generally have players use certain attacks and mechanics to beat them, because otherwise they are just huge sponges? i am amazed by your intellect!
Xehanort is hard as hell and annoying to fight. Yet his intro to the fight, his theme, and that one move where he reverses time is really cool.
What exactly is atrocious about KH1’s gameplay. The enemy and boss designs are, for the most part, very well-designed, the tech point system is a great risk-vs-reward system that actively encourages you to play outside of your comfort zone and rewards you for doing with so with more EXP, there’s a good amount of customization presented to you in the game, whether it’s Keyblades, accessories, or even the very beginning, in which the choices you make can affect your ability progression system and even dictate how you want your EXP curve to function, the level design and environmental interactions actively reward you for exploring every nook and cranny, etc...
In terms of being both an action game and an RPG, KH1 does both things incredibly well, to the point that I believe that it’s the strongest in the series when it comes to the RPG aspects.
The gameplay is passable and the story has the decency of wrapping up everything it introduces and not end in a cliffhanger, which is an unprecedented event in Kingdom Hearts history and for this reason alone it deserves all the praise the human body is capable of producing.
>it perfe-
>literally just have thundersurge 8 times and you win
the combat in this game is such a joke i beat literally every boss with a 2x vigra and 6x thundersurge deck because every other ability is trash compared to it
Yeah I'm sure against the Superbosses the game wanted you to stand there and spam moves with invincible i-frames all the time that are fucking dull to use.
