It's also pretty interesting how in the beginning of the game after Dream Zanarkand is destroyed by Sin and Auron casts Tidus into Sin, you meet Jecht in a mysterious arena-like area. That arena is the deepest part of Sin, the final boss's arena, so Jecht is actually right there at that moment.

Also later after Operation Mi'hen you see a cutscene of the ghost of Luzzu or Gatta, whoever died, walking in a mysterious plane. That plane is also within Sin, right before the final boss's arena.

And once the hymn stops sin retaliates and knocks them out blank meanwhile shipping them off to bikanel desert

I just rewatched this scene and, once you realize what was supposed to be going on, it's pretty clear they wanted you to realize you landed on Sin - they even show him in a cutscene.

Auron spent ten years in Dream Zanarkand watching over Tidus. As an Unsent and as Jecht's close friend hitching a ride on Sin is easy for him.

The game never states where dream zanarkand is, some said it was above gagazet, others inside sin and others that it was above the ruins Tidus wakes up.

I think after sin was defeated jecht had to regrow sin from within wich is the part where auron meets Tidus, then when he is old enough Sin destroys dream zanarkand and takes Tidus back to Spira.
Maybe dream zanarkand is always destroyed by sin after a decade or something to prevent the dream people from escaping. We don't know how life works in dream zanarkand, I always thought it was a recreation of the last years of real zanarkand before it was destroyed in the machina war, so it's not eternal, it's created and destroyed by sin every decade.

there's the ice floor above ground and the entrance of the temple, then there's the temple between the lake and the frozen lake, and then theres the lower part of the temple wixh is right above water, this is where sin is, with his back above water the place where the crew is chilling
the temple is hanging from the ice floor but its not covered in water, there's like a layer of air between the ice cap and the water floor, it's more like an ice ceiling

Dream zanarkand is out in the sea surrounded by water, close to where the al bhed first pick him up on their ship

They did a terrible job, because this shot shows them under the temple and in some type of icy cavern. The flat field around the Zanarkand ruins is unlike the actual body of sin, shown here: They they all scream "Sin!" and point at the ground, so they realize they're on Sin. The shot changes to , which is in the middle of the ocean for no fucking reason, but the scene goes back to them and they're still in the same icy cavern, pic related.

It's shitty direction in this scene.

It's just out there in the ocean. Dream Zanarkand works like every other Aeon, it's a massive dream of the Fayth summoned to the material plane. The reason nobody ever found it before is because Sin closely guards it, and sinks any ships that stray too close. Jecht even got from Dream Zanarkand to Spira just by swimming there while drunk one day.

Dream Zanarkand is the exception because Yu Yevon is both Sin and the summoner for Dream Zanarkand, he designed the illusory city to live forever. So even if Sin accidentally destroys it by nature, the Fayth will simply resummon it again.
