Lord Of The Rings: Gollum confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X

t3.com/news/lord-of-the-rings-gollum-confirmed-for-ps5-and-xbox-series-x

>The titular Gollum won't be based on Andy Serkis' incredible performance in The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit movies. In an interview with Edge Magazine, Daedalic Entertainment art director Mathias Fischer said most of the content, including Gollum's portrayal, will be drawn from the books by J.R.R. Tolkien.

>Fischer says "Tolkien didn’t give a size reference for Gollum to begin with, so in the first illustrations, he’s gigantic! He’s like a monster emerging from the swamp.”

>Senior producer Kai Fiebig adds: "[We] don't want to displease the folks who have only seen the movies. But in short, he doesn’t look like Andy Serkis.”

>Expect to see lots of stealth mechanics and a few interesting story choices in both PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, as Smeagol and Gollum grapple with each other's split personality and advise the player differently. The player will choose which side of the coin to listen to, which will in turn alter the outcome of the story.

>The Daedalic team also drop another intriguing hint: the super-scary Ringwraiths, or Nazgûl as they're known to proper Tolkien nerds, will also feature in the story.

>Fischer says: “They were an interesting challenge, because it’s so well documented where they are in the wider narrative... I think ours are the less cool ones. They’re the drummer and bass player of the band. But we have a chance to make them more popular!”

>The game is due to be released in 2021 for "all relevant platforms at that time" including PC, Xbox Series X and PS5.

Thoughts on this?

literal fanfic, and not even the good kind. Who the fuck wants a game about Gollum?

>content drawn from the books
Pretty based. Especially good that it's not Andy Serkis-based Gollum, that kike can go fuck himself. Surprised they are willing to respect the original source material at all anymore, as we'll probably be getting nigger Aragorn soon

>our gollum won't look like the LotR film gollum
>logo literally looks like the LotR film gollum

huh? also having a 'less cool' version of Ringwraiths doesn't get me hyped, what will the game have that's cool?

I've lost interest in any commercial lotr related things after the hobbit.

Faithful to the books doesn't mean jack shit anymore, it's practically bait at this point. Though in this case I doubt they can add too much shit in a game about fucking Gollum.

>Hiding in trees and bushes every level
>Occasional fishing minigame
>Final boss is a QTE press F to bite finger off

>not Andy Serkis
But why? He's basically a mo-capping God, but honestly his best role in my opinion was as Haddock in that Tintin film. Great film by the way if you like stuff like Indiana Jones or any globe trotting adventure.

>LOTR game
>about Gollum of all things
Who fucking asked for this? There is so much cool shit in Tolkien's universe that could be adapted into great games, like the fall of Gondolin, but no, here's your mutated hobbit, enjoy.

>Go into the Tintin movie expecting a trainwreck
>It's actually a pretty lighthearted, action packed adventure that does a lot of justice to the characters
Genuinely surprised, I hope at some point we get another. I don't want it to become a super commercial franchise but Tintin, Asteryx and alike are the kind of stories I love to see from time to time.

>the super-scary Ringwraiths, or Nazgûl as they're known to proper Tolkien nerds

Sounds like a shitty version of Styx

Oh God, they're not gonna follow with Monolith's idea that Gollum was an 'unsung hero' of the LoTR are they?

>WB Games
>making some smaller niche games
At best they just going to make Mordor 3

>>Fischer says "Tolkien didn’t give a size reference for Gollum to begin with, so in the first illustrations, he’s gigantic! He’s like a monster emerging from the swamp.”
I gathered from the movie that he was a hobbit, is that not the case in the book?

I think they've been trying to make a second film for the better part of a decade now, but whose to say if it'll ever happen. Would be nice though. I should try and read the actual Tintin comics.

>Fischer says "Tolkien didn’t give a size reference for Gollum to begin with, so in the first illustrations, he’s gigantic! He’s like a monster emerging from the swamp.”

LMAO
WHAT
THE
FUCK

>Expect to see (...) a few interesting story choices
Gollum is a black woman, just like Kynes from Dune.
Seriously though, it's a game by Daedalic, so it shouldn't be that bad, though the gameplay will probably be somewhat clunky.
Generally I love they're games, as a fan of point'n'clicks, but they're usually pretty flawed.

>that does a lot of justice to the characters
did we watch the same movie? the one with two cranes sword fighting? the one with the absolutely butchered captain haddock? that movie?

do that, and the series, if that movie was the first you saw of Tintin i can understand.. but damn that was a bad movie

kek

He is, this is the most retarded shit I have ever read regarding LoTR
>We want Hulk in LoTR so we'll give a fucking excuse

I think my only gripe with the movie was it's too chaotic while IMO Tintin is very minimalistic. They did a good job combining 3 books into one story and making Sakharine a villain.

What a potty mouth. Stay away from Lord of the Rings, please.

Was thinking the exact same thing

My only delve into Tintin honestly.

>"Tolkien didn’t give a size reference for Gollum to begin with"
>devs don't even know what they're working with

>"In the first edition of The Hobbit, Gollum's size is not stated."
Google "gollum first illustration", pic related, one of them.

>more lotr
I feel nothing.

More fantasy shit with elves and orcs. Boring. Yes, I know, it's LotR. That still doesn't excuse the devs.

Gollum was retconned into being a hobbit in the Lord of the Rings

>Gollum will start in Barad-dûr, a fortress in Mordor where the corrupted creature is being held prisoner, but you can expect to see plenty more of Middle-Earth beyond that, as the game promises "giant, persistent environments, each harbouring several questlines and a range of friendly or unfriendly faces."

this whole thing actually seems pretty sick

This is probably going to be accurate, I'm not expecting much actual gameplay

I do. Pleb.

The thing with Tintin is that it can go from great mystery to dumb shit real fast. As you said, it's very simplistic in nature, which doesn't work well when trasnslated to the big screen for most audiences, so they made the choice to focus more on the adventure part. I think it's fine, they didn't try to reinvent the wheel, they adapted some of the books and kinda made their own thing. The comics will always be better as that's the true essence, but given Hollywood's history with adaptations, I think this one came out pretty nicely. You can tell it was done with passion, even if it slips in some parts.

Nigger, Gollum was a Stoor, pick up the books

Attached: 1586295294014.png (378x340, 216.53K)

What's that giant spider called, Shellath? They made that thing into a sexy cursed woman or something in the last orc management game with the autistic elven companion. Why would WarnerBros think more of this fanfic is needed? They could easily do another bro op co op game like the Two Towers and Return of the King EA games but are deeply committed to a fantasy epic sequel bait game design.

It's like the only way to get a project greenlight by WarnerBros is to rack up the highest bill cost with the promise of "massive sequel franchise".

False, he was from a race related to Hobbits in the books

No he wasn't. He was a hobbit from the start. Tolkien described him better in later editions of The Hobbit because artists were drawing him like he's a giant.

Jesus christ, just give me a Dunedain ranger game in the style of stalker already

He was a creture 'similar' to hobbits like this user said

>Gollum
>clearly shows the movie version in the logo
>but it won't look like the movie version
>lots of stealth mechanics
>but not referencing it as a stealth game
>based on the books
>but familiar to people that only saw the movies
Who wanted this? Who think this could be good? This just sounds like a worse Styx.

Yes it does. Literally store brand (I don't give a fuck about your fantasy lore) vs classic coke (Tolkien)

Attached: ken levine.jpg (720x705, 59.95K)

>Gollum, originally known as Sméagol (or Trahald), was at first a Stoor, one of the three early Hobbit-types.

>The Stoors are one of the three races of Hobbits who mostly inhabited swampy areas.
Stoor

>In their earliest recorded history the Stoors, like the other Hobbits, lived in the Vales of Anduin. They were a riverside people that dwelt in the Gladden Fields, and were fishermen

Attached: 123.png (333x286, 53.28K)

Nah. If the devs were worth their salt they'd make their own setting and do a good job with it.

When they try to appeal to literally everyone and end up failing at all points.

I don't give a shit about your fantasy lore even in the best circumstances. Eat shit pleb.

>not involved with Warner Bros in any way and draws only from the Tolkien books
>not a rooty tooty point and shooty loot collectathon
>NOOOOO HOW DARE YOU DELETE THIS

Attached: 1580249914259.jpg (512x512, 12.52K)

It literally says here that he's a hobbit. That's not a retcon.

Fanfiction trash.

go read Asterix & Obelix comics too, or at least watch "Twelve tasks of Asterix" and "Asterix Versus Caesar(Astérix et la surprise de César)" the older movies are also great, the cleopatra movie has great music

Spielberg is pretty much passionate about Tintin. Remember that Indiana Jones was pretty much inspired by it and he got the license when Herge died. It's pretty much a passion project.
But yeah, sometimes you can see too much of the Spielberg's "look at my sick ass directing skill". Shit like the Bagghar chase is impressive but it's too much for Tintin. I genuinely thought that Wes Anderson might be more suitable for Tintin.

So what are you doing here?
