Anybody who can't tell that a twitter video featuring two people with no legal access to Capcom's IPs "announcing" an Okami sequel is a joke deserves what they get. They also never pretended the new studio announcement was a new game, it was in fact announced the same day as Project G.G., likely so people didn't spend a few days or weeks speculating only to be let down.

My guess is it's a big deal due to the scope of their games. It's easier to publish an Indie game than a bigger budget game. That said, I don't think it's a good idea for them. They have so few successes that I don't see them succeeding without a publisher. And they are announcing games before actually finishing what they already have. Bayonetta 3 has been in development for at least three years and Babylon's Fall was suppose to come out last year. But now they are suppose to make this big Hero game when W101 flopped. They want to do a Kickstarter for a port? I feel like they have these grand plans but don't realize you can't do them if you're struggling to break a million sales on every title and if other publishers with money and resources are dropping you because you are just a money pit. I think in movies half the budget is just advertising. Not sure if that's true for games, but if it is, I don't see how Platinum is going to survive making titles that sell 500K while taking 4 years to make. Feel like they don't know where they really stand in the market.

I feel like the Kickstarter was more of an advertisement/publicity thing than something they actually needed. Development cost aren't much an issue since it's a port and as you said the advertising is the next biggest cost and they aren't going to get special treatment from a publisher since they want it to be multiplat unlike NMHIII. Grasshopper might be self publishing, but Nintendo is handling distribution and advertising and applying to ratings boards, etc.

To be clear, I do think NMHIII could get ported, but Nintendo is probably comfortable in it being 1) niche and 2) dominating the retail presence and mind space by it being timed and having historical ties. Those TSA PS4/PC ports might as well have not existed given how little they sold.
