It's not even the hold-circle-to-auto-attack that bothers me. Or Tabata making it more casual.
It's that they originally planned for enemy attacks to have tells that you can guard and dodge roll and such, but he specifically told them to nerf it for bullshit reasons. He didn't think you should be able to guard and dodge everything, you should have to tank damage like old FF, but it means you're not attacking while waiting for recovery animations far FAR too often. With practice you can learn to put yourself in favorable positions, but it feels really bad to play. I want to feel like it's skill and reaction time that's making me win, not that I've found the cheese strat.
