Does anyone have that post about the best ways to play Silent Hill 1 and 2? I figure it's time to give them a playthrough.

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
DON'T use W10's own virtual disc app! It will not work.
Don't install under C:\Program Files\ ! This will cause issues.
The "Enhanced .EXE" is also the no-CD crack!
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate using ePSXe or PCSX-R.
Follow the SH2 widescreen fix site's instructions to the T, and you should be fine.
For 3 & 4, check the Guide.
>Protips
-Play in the release order.
-Never play below Normal difficulty! Especially in case of #2!
-Replaying them all is recommended; tons of replay value.
-Turn down the ingame Brightness setting, for better gamma & colors!
-Don't try to kill everything that moves, especially outdoors. Leg it, or sneak!
-Turning OFF the flashlight can really help w/ stealth!
Yes that's what I've been looking for. Many thanks. Before I dive in, this is a certifiable way to experience the Silent Hill games? There are little to no graphical hiccups? It's just as good, or better than the console versions?
Just emulate them both, its not worth the work and the ps2 emulation is the closest to how the game should look anyway (for sh2)
Here's some alternative emulator settings for SH1, if your machine's a total potato.
Alternatively, use a Software renderer with dithering for those truly authentic, unfiltered 240p PS1 graphics.
>Before I dive in, this is a certifiable way to experience the Silent Hill games
Well one could argue that THE optimal way to play would be a real Playstation 2 + the real discs + a CRT telly.
They are the original versions, after all, and there's some magical atmosphere playing these retro titles in their native environment.
>There are little to no graphical hiccups?
That really depends, but assuming you got a typical gaming PC and install the stuff correct, they work perfectly fine.
The PC port of 2 has practically surpassed the console versions long ago. Any left over nitpicks are super minor stuff only some rare HC fanatics could ever notice, and even those will be remedied with time.
As long as you STAY THE FUCK AWAY from the god-awful ""HD"" "Collection" on X360 / PS3, you will be fine.
>the ps2 emulation is the closest to how the game should look anyway (for sh2)
No, it really is not. PS2 emulation is still fucking garbage, and both SH2 and 3 glitch up in numerous ways.
Especially now that Soft Shadows and analog-camera controls are restored in the PC version, there's no reason to bother with the clunky PCSX2.
I considered emulation, but I'm not against some touch-ups + PCSX2 still isn't perfect.
Glad to hear. Thanks man.
np mate!
If you got any issues, look up the Enhanced Edition home page's FAQ, or just search up / make a new thread.
Personally, I've not had any issues setting up the whole quadrilogy on both W7 and W10 machines.
>Alternatively, use a Software renderer with dithering for those truly authentic, unfiltered 240p PS1 graphics.
nah just use mednafen to emulate sh1
>nah just use mednafen to emulate sh1
Mednafag is shit, clunky as fuck to use, and it has worse accuracy than ePSXe's latest version.
You don't need to succumb to some iPhone app to play a 20yo PS1 game.
Based shfag dabbing on ignorants.
>Mednafag is shit, clunky as fuck to use
get good @ computer
>and it has worse accuracy than ePSXe's latest version.
Says fucking who?
>You don't need to succumb to some iPhone app
It's primarily for linux users who know what they're doing, but works fine on Windows as well.
>get good @ computer
My computer is FIGHT.
Your terrible mobile application with no standard GUI is just a travesty.
>Says fucking who?
Says literal fucking benchmark tests from less than 4 years ago. Look 'em up, and join the ranks of the still seething Retrofart fanbois.
>It's primarily for linux users who know what they're doing
Yeah, and Leenux fags TOTALLY don't love wasting their lives in a command prompt, hacking their shit at machine-code level.
That crap is NOT practical nor user friendly for a typical user, even less so to a total PC newb.
Instead of wasting 30 minutes watching a tutorial video how to download, compile and painstakingly tweak a queer application that does nothing better than a 15yo Windows program, you could just get the actual standalone emulator made for the Windows PCs and adjust settings with a couple intuitive mouse clicks.
>Yeah, and Leenux fags TOTALLY don't love wasting their lives in a command prompt, hacking their shit at machine-code level.
lmao dude it takes 20 fucking seconds to put "@echo off
mednafen game/game.cue"
in a .bat and just have a doubleclick shortcut for your game. 20 fucking seconds tops. And as for configuration, it's just changing numbers in a .cfg file. How is that any harder than a "standard gui"? It's just a different way of doing things.
It's an obsolete and unintuitive as fuck way of doing things.
This is why you don't let mere code monkeys make games and applications; the result's the same as letting an engineer build an entire car.
>writing "bios ./bios/psx" 2 hardd 4 meee :(((
I'm actually retarded, how do I install Silent Hill 2 from those files? do I have to start with CD 1?
I don't even see an .iso to mount
what should I use to mount it anyway, if not W10
SPOONFEEEED MEE REEEE
>writing literal tech mumbojumbo with no way to tell what the result is
>somehow user friendly compared to literal menus with selectable, explained options, whose effects you get to see immediately.
Watch the fucking video tutorial, goddammit.
It seems I'm even more retarded than I originally thought, I didn't even see the youtube link in the post lmfao.
Cheers user
It's not hard to use Mednafen but it really is more tedious. I remember mapping controllers to be pretty annoying in it too. I got it running fine but I didn't notice much of a difference compared to just using ePSXe except Mednafen ran slower.
What do anons like to use for their .iso mounting, WinCDEmu any good?
Daemon Tools for fancy, Virtual Clonedrive for the lightest lightweight mounter ever.
Still using Daemon Tools v4 from like, 2008 or something.
No perceivable malware and other modern cancers, and it just werks.
the malware shit is what I'm trying to avoid, I'm sure I remember seeing people bitch that all these free mounters installed a load of tool bars and new homepages or whatever
Yeah, that crap started popping up in every other application towards the 2010s.
It's one reason I kept using uTorrent's ancient version 3 for so long. Switched to qBit a while ago though.
Most of the time that shit can be excluded during installation if you uncheck boxes or choose "no" when it asks if you want it. But a lot of people just go through the installation without looking at what it's really doing.
old version of daemon tools or WinCDEmu, both work equally well
>had to restart my computer to finish game installation
well shit that was a blast from the past
just went back to the youtube tutorial for the enhancements
>dont need to restart your pc
lmao
Props to the boys from Russia and Spain seeding that torrent for me right now.
is the reshade stuff worth installing? it says optional but if it looks much better I'll do it
how are the mouse and keyboard controls? should I set up a controller?
