the whole gang is the "fuck civilization and their way of thinking" stereotype, considering that treating niggers poorly was part of said civilization i can see why their gang would take the opposite standing on that issue, same with feminism. i do agree that it's a bit too much on the nose sometimes tho

This.

The only thing that broke my immersion for Arthur was when he was french kissed by a frenchman in drag and didn't have a strong reaction.

Because Arthur's a good man underneath all his actions and choices, he isn't the kind of guy to buy into baseless prejudice like that and he can even somewhat sympathise with their plight given a similar sort of lifestyle/disdain that outlaws experience.

Also, by the events of the game he's already sick of everyone's bullshit.

>Because Arthur's a good man
Lol

He is a good man. Not a saint, but a good enough man to help others that he believes need helping and sympathise with other people's suffering (this is why he doesn't react strongly when the Swinger Frenchman kisses him), not just terrorise like other outlaws such as the O'driscolls or the Skinners. Even a low honor Arthur still isn't on Micah or Colm's level of bad.

I guess you could argue that he can't ever truly be considered a good man due to his past choices, but personally I agree with the Sister that it's your actions that make you good and not a checklist of things considered good.

history didnt happen when it isnt convenient to the narrative.

>everybody back in the day spend their days walking around saying fuck niggers
another great history lesson brought to you by Yas Forums

Because unironically the game was development y people from California living in California.
They can't allow having negative view on other races therefore Arthur was made this way.

Arthur and Dutch's whole gig is that they are counter-cultural wildmen that idealize the "noble savage" and believe in ruthlessly attacking the enroaching American society.

Having blacks and native americans amongst their crew is entirely within character of this. You haven't actually played the game though, so you wouldn't know that.

Micah is always insulting other races whenever they're next to him though.

Yeah and he's the bad guy.

>no one back in the day used the words nigger or negro
>no one back in the day was racist
>everyone back in the day loved black people
thank you for the history lesson

He should be extremely racist. As in, not abiding blacks to even be in his immediate vicinity.

Except nobody is saying that in this thread you retard. Jesus christ.

Almost no man back then was feminist or tolerant of homos. It didn't really exist. Not everybody hated niggers but Arthur talks about race like a 21st century democrat.

>buy into baseless prejudice
L O L.

progressive could have meant an entirely different thing

what /his/ tells you
>"Fuck slavery." - Abraham Lincoln
what he actually said
>"Fuck slavery, who wants niggers here anyway?" - Abraham Lincoln

except you, retard

Where's the quote?

Yeah, but if it was truly as woke (or whatever the term is, I can't keep up) as you say it is, then Micah would not have made it into the game at all with all his offensive remarks and he wouldn't have been written as a genuine person.
Arthur would have actively been helping them out during the course of the game too. This isn't the case though, infact Arthur just says that it isn't his fight multiple times and only helps when either forced or the players chooses to do so.

He makes his living via lying killing and stealing. Making him a ‘nice guy’ is either fucking retarded writing, or he is just a huge hypocrite

Hitler was extremely progressive

he unironically was, because progressive can mean so many things

It's a sort of robin hood scenario and he also never really had a choice considering he was already an outlaw by the time he had a choice in the matter. He's always doing bad things for a good cause (helping the gang, loyalty, friendship, etc) and righting wrongs based on his Dutch's justice.
It's a moral grey area and that's literally the entire point of the game's story and honor mechanic. it's called Red Dead Redemption, user.

>He makes his living via lying killing and stealing. Making him a ‘nice guy’ is either fucking retarded writing, or he is just a huge hypocrite

Are you just dedicated to telling everyone you haven't played the game but want to mouth off about it anyway?

>that's the waaaay is iiiiiiis

By that logic, is a Californian in 2020 guaranteed to be pro-trans?

Other characters are racist and sexist. You play as a gang of european enlightenment liberal anarchists

He is not a "good man" overall. You can make him do some good deeds in his last moments of his life, but overall he is evil. When he throws Strauss away he is a hypocrite, but it could be also that he blames him for getting AIDS if you are playing as an evil character. And talking of evil ending I think it's much better for him than the good one. He doesn't lie to himself and just keeps being him and he tries to fuck up Dutch's and Micah's plan not for moral righteousness, but more like "you betrayed the gang and now you are going to pay".

Arthur is by all definitions a tremendously horrible human being

By some standards, yes. But Fascism is characterised by a philosophy of 'forward, to the past'; it's motivated by recapturing past glories, not breaking new ground.

>this is your brain on schizophrenia

Renegades and criminals generally have views outside the social norm. Their gang had a darkie, a native or two, and a Mexican. As a criminal you take what you can get. The feminist part? Who the fuck knows. There were a few men in that period that advocated for women's rights, but not many.

His stance on animal rights is the opposite of going back to the past, nice useless buzzwords

He was drunk
