There's a certain satisfaction that comes with getting good at a difficult game. That's not exclusive to fighting games either.

I don't care either way, from a design perspective I don't know how investors ever gave these games the okay with they way they are designed. This is the genre where the casuals never go online and most conssumers have a stiga where the genre is too hard and pass it completly.
Seriously, these games maybe sell a couple million tops(usually much less) and only like 10% of these players are on the ranking boards which onlu means playing one game.

Easy, they earned a mountain of quarters in 90s arcades, and contrary to what you think, games like Street Fighter still sell well.

lmfao street fighter was the biggest brand of the early 90s and it gets 10x outsold by random AAA shovelware every year people forget. Fighting games like all arcade games sold early on due to the novelty of making a new genre, first 2D then 3D. Once the novelty wore off the genre literally disappeared for nearly a decade.
Konami updating the trademark got me interested in Bloody Roar again, the game is really fucking difficult to learn though and i keep getting utterly destroyed.

Playing pool isn't fun either if you can't actually play to a certain level of competency where you can at least make a good attempt of making different types of shots, instead of just smashing the ball down in a general direction.
