Why are they afraid to bring Wario into the mainstream Mario games? Is there a narrative flaw or licensing issue?
I'd imagine a bizarro Mario focused game, though not the most creative thing, would be a hot sell. I mean just the Toadette crown got so much attention. Mario/Luigi somehow end up in waru world, Good Guy Bowser as a side protag, Evil Peach/Toad. Wario and Waluigi as minibosses.

EXCEPT for the extra mode where you have to collect treasure under a time limit

People bring up Miyamoto a lot but where was his mind in the 6th gen? The 6th gen and even early 7th gen was packed with some of Nintendo's most ambitious and eccentric IPs and eccentric takes on Nintendo's conventional IPs and Miyamoto apparently had no problems with any of this. Why the change of heart in the 10's onward when Nintendo was already allowing all kinds of experimental and even tech pushing things a decade ago?
