no one has ever played earthbound, they just pretend they have to fit in.
no one knows what the final boss looks like or if there even is a final boss.
no one knows how the story ends.
there is not a single recorded instance of someone finishing earthbound in history.

The final boss was the ugly fat short kid and i remember he became monster or something. I played the game in 2006.
It's a solid 8

I played it some years ago. Fun for a first run but wont be playing again any time soon. never finished Mother3

I played earthbound, it was alright. Definitely a little overhyped, but it had some moments with feels.

>no one knows what the final boss looks like or if there even is a final boss.
You dont remember all those old Giygas memes? That's what caught my initial interest

pretty much
fpbp

So why the f*ck has earthbound and countless other classics not been ported to the switch?

STG's have Touhou Project
JPRG's have Earthbound

What are some other games that have huge followings of "fans" who never played the games they claim to love?

Unironically one of the best jrpg I've ever played. There are not many out there where the dialogue is so good you want to talk to every npc.

Silent Hill
Metroid
maybe Lisa?

>no one knows what the final boss looks like

Heh.

>played Earthbound as a kid
>loved it to death
>still remember leveling minimums for surviving the early parts of the game since Ness has to solo so much and if you go in too early you can get 2 shot
>grow up, get old
>EB is now shorthand for retarded zoomers who want to look quirky
>just liked it because strange weird engaging RPG after I played the two final fantasies we got in the states

I played it around the time emulation became a thing, again around the time it started getting popular, and yet again on the SNES Classic.

I played the game on the shitty Android tablet I got for my 13th birthday on snes9x ex+. the final boss is the fucking background lmao. still my favorite jrpg tho

I can only ever start them, play them for like an hour or two then something allways outs me off. Overly complicated story or shitty mechanics.

>During the years where this man was unable to move his limbs he would watch his friends and family as they played video games. Now that he has regained function of his body this huge Earthbound fan is excited to play it for the first time

Unreal 1
Half-Life 1
Deus Ex
Planetscape Torment
Portal
Dragonquest
Majority of Fire Emblem games
Resident Evil
Silent Hill

>maybe LISA
the game is cheap as fuck on Steam and relatively easy if you're not a mouthbreather

Nah fake earthbound fans geek out over giygas the final boss with soi videos on how terrified they were
>Yikes! That giygas did me a frighten! I was so disturbederino!
>N-no, I totally played earthbound man! I didn't just watch top 10 most disturbing bosses in kids games! NOOOOO
Real mother fans know that giygas started off as giegue first
and also that the mother series is babbys first quirky "indie" game but its still good

I replayed EarthBound at the beginning of this year, actually. You sure won't find me denying that this phenomenon exists, however.

Do people who "love Final Fantasy," but have never touched anything pre-FF7 count?

It's funny how all the contemporary Western reviewers in the 1990s said it wasn't good and now it regularly appears near the top of most "best Super NES games of all time" lists.

Same goes for Doom Classic

Fire Emblem
Persona 5
any game with an anime art style.

The idea of earthbound is more fun than playing the actual game.

How the fuck was Giygas even scary. I beat the game at 10 years old and thought "huh this is weird"

I got the game shortly after the N64/PS1 era started, Blockbuster was downsizing the previous era's games. I enjoyed it, but virtually forgot about it till Smash 64. My cousin unlocked him and was like "Yeah, his name is Ness." And since you can name EVERYTHING in Earthbound, I had no idea who the fuck he was talking about.

Then I got a gamecube and Melee and was reminded he existed yet again. Wasn't until the mid to late 2000's, well after Brawl I even learned there was a fanbase for the game.

Is it overhyped? 100%. The music is mostly beeping and booping, and not super well thought out, (Look at Smash's play list for confirmation. Pollyanna is from the first game, and the 3rd has better music too.) Only good song from Earthbound is the final boss tune, but it stops after the first phase for fucks sake. (and isn't even in Smash, wtf?)

Gameplay is. Turn based JRPG. If you've played one you've played them all. The only thing Earthbound has (And the first game I guess) is that is was an RPG based in modern era, but now that it's common it's nothing special.

The art ingame is colorful, but the story is nothing more than "Save the world for reasons". Mother 3 trumps literally everything the game has and then some. It'd be neat to see what'd they'd do with a Mother 4, but HAH, that'll never happen.

So yeah, 7 outta ten

i played it, helped me get into games like off, yume nikki, and middens

Attached: R-6770246-1557953867-2310.jpeg.jpg (370x450, 24.41K)

it's Persona 1 and 2 that no one's played.

I don't care that Earthbound is associated with soi now, it's still one of my favorite games ever

JRPGs have Persona though
Also not a series but this happens with fighting games' female characters

the majority of JRPG stories are "the chosen one must defeat evil", what the hell are you playin' nigga

Dis rap tho.

Which fire emblem? 5?

Unsettling music and imagery, even if simple. Same reason Lavos roar is scary. It doesn't take much when you're very young.

The hours poured into rosterfagging about Smash probably dwarfs the hours actually playing it tenfold.

Nobody ever beat xenogears

I can think of a few.

>FE fans who have never touched anything that isn't 3H and arguably Awakening and Fates
>SMT fans who have only ever play P3, P4, or P5
>Type Moon fans who only jacks off to F/GO doujins
>Soulsborne's fans who only consoom vaatividya's videos

you forgot final fantasy VII/VIII and Doom.
A lot of "pokemon" normalfag fans probably stopped playing after II/III and only care about KANTOOOOOOO shit and completely ignore the rest of the franchise (even the not shit parts like gen IV and V)

Portal
Every Zelda
Doom

Earthbound sucks, play Mother

This is good as well.

But I WAS very young.

"nobody played earthbound" is a forced meme

What about SMT fans who have only ever played Nocturne?

Mother III sucks

honestly we don't care if you are the exception faggot

You're alright but it's not hard to emulate the earlier stuff and you owe SMT4 a try imo.

Probably Undertale, good music but the meme game is trash I doubt many fans have actually played through it.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 116.22K)

I only have Mother 1 and 2 so I have no idea how 3 is

>55 posts 41 IPs
obvious samefag

Its a game that never existed, no records no nothing. But you just believe it because you read something online of it existing. Thats how easy it is to convince you something that never existed actually exist.

>beeping and booping

Yea, never mind the actual samples of Beatles songs and other Americana references. You fucking shiteater. I wish I had a button to kill everyone in Yas Forums and /vr/. Leave no survivors.

Did any SMT fans play IV? Not a SMT fan but only one that would probably be readily available

Also
>Animal Crossing that got into the series with NL and not the original GC entry

Based

Here's an obvious one: Smash Bros. and nearly every series involved in it.

I've tried to play through Earthbound three times. It's just boring as fuck.

>Want to play Earthbound
>Decide to start with Earthbound Zero
>Don't get far, only around Magicant
>Put it down and never pick it back up
The game wasn't very fun

IV came out the same time as Awakening reviving FE series, there was also a campaign that gives a price off if you buy the 2 games together iirc so IV is definitely a gateway to SMT to many.

>getting scared by a still image being moved around on the screen
If Giygas scared you as a kid then you were a complete pussy faggot, and probably still are.

You mean gigyas?

7 first, then awakening

I enjoyed the original SMT and the sequel but never played Nocturne. Played Persona 2 through 5 and hate Persona. But isn't SMT 4 considered garbage? I thought that Strange Journey was considered the golden goose?
