>There are two main reasons. Firstly, the way we handled Sephiroth in the original Final Fantasy VII was to hide him—hold him back.

>You may not know this, but I was inspired by the movie Jaws which took a similar approach of teasing this powerful presence, but never fully showing you the shark until later in the story. We wanted to build him up as this really big, powerful character in people’s minds. By only referring to him indirectly, it created this feeling of fear and oppression–so when he makes his first appearance, it’s a big deal.

>But for the remake, that doesn’t work so well–partly because everybody knows who Sephiroth is (laughs)! We didn’t think it would be as effective to have him held back until later on in the story.

>Secondly, Sephiroth is this massively overarching presence that looms over the whole Final Fantasy VII saga. We wanted to make sure that aspect of him was present in this first game in the project – that’s why we have introduced him much earlier in the story now.

This is a pretty pottery comparison, especially considering FF7R is as unnecessary as jaws 2

From the thumbnail I thought it said "handled like Jews."

Same. This fucking place has ruined me.

>But for the remake, that doesn’t work so well–partly because everybody knows who Sephiroth is (laughs)! We didn’t think it would be as effective to have him held back until later on in the story

What is that logic? Like 70% of the people ive seen online have never played FF7 before.

They had Jaws in Japan?
Makes me wonder if it had the same effect it did in the west of scaring people out of the water

I feel you

Tits or gtfo

Everyone know who sephiroth is do you want a retarded reveal like in alien isolation for a bad guy that everyone knows and that’s supposed to be shocking or surprising

>we did this thing and it worked, but we are now changing it for petty reasons
Stupid chinks.
Guilty.

that's a nice anecdote and all but it's not really relevant

I suppose so. But I doubt that 70% of people who play vidya don't know who Sephiroth is.

He's got a point. They couldn't handle the same. As a kid there was something pretty based when you get to control Sephiroth and he's get nut out max level magic and near damage cap slashes while you're triple digit damage.

Really made you think he's strong as fuck.

This would be lost on the Remake what with you firing off Bahamaut and -ga spells.

zoom zoom

well if they wanted to do the opposite they have succeeded, we already beat him and we weren't even level 30 yet

*improved you

those faggots do not matter

So they have it throw skyscrapers at you instead? Brilliant!

The moment sephiroth is mentioned, Cloud says he is the real problem for the world, its not a reveal, but rather make him elusive, that every time he is in the screen its met with a big impact
I dont think they handled it well on the remake
The fact that people know who sephiroth is doesnt mean it cant be executed with mistery, every fucking person who goes to see JAWS knows the villain is the fucking shark, his logic makes no fucking sense

So they're basically admitting that making it episodic was a mistake

>This would be lost on the Remake what with you firing off Bahamaut and -ga spells.

It would be kino if you could control him in some flashbacks, with him sporting some end-game materia.

I unironically still think they should've played him up like a teaser, dangling him in our faces with hints and flashbacks with the knowledge that players want to see him badly. You don't need shock value for this remake, I feel it's just a matter of simple anticipation and payoff like with the Honey Bee Inn, even if it's not exactly the same.

>He's got a point. They couldn't handle the same.
yes they could, outside elements shouldn't have that much impact on your story, it's like saying everybody knows who bruce wayne is therefore there's no point in having batman with a hidden identity anymore, the story should be created according to the knowledge of the characters in the story, not the knowledge of the audience.

Why would Sephiroth care about materia? He only needs whacks things once or twice with his sword.

It still worked in Alien Isolation because you still had no idea what it would be capable of within the game world.

>Sephiroth was treated as a monster and wasn't overplayed in the original
>now he's treated as an anime villain with a homosexual lust for the main character

They could have just followed the Jaws method but found a way to make him more harrowing than in the original. The FF7R method is everything wrong with Square Enix.

He had materia in the flashbacks, cuh. Using a sword is nigger-tier shit compared to magic, anyway.

I wish these developers were smarter.

I loved the scene were it shows a young Brody on a mission with the shark, who he looks up to as a mentor.

Yeah and?
when you watch Jaws you know there is a white shark but it still works
I actually played FF7 way after it's release and the fact that I knew sephiroth hyped me even more when he was mentioned and I couldn't wait to finally see him

At first I read hunched like Jews

That's exactly why I appreciated Sephiroth so much in the original. He has an almost horror kind of presence, which wasn't what I was expecting at all.
