So for those who have played it how is it?
So for those who have played it how is it?
It's gonna be remembered as a legendary game.
I love it.
Kind of boring. Basically keep mashing square and you'll beat it within 40 hours.
It's good. If they just copied the script from the OG game, I'd just say its soulless garbage with updated graphics and bad combat, and you're better off playing the PS1 game.
But now that Nomura has turned into Kojima 2.0, the script is vastly different. I expect a completely different storyline in part 2.
Its great until Kingdom Hearts happens.
perfect
One of the biggest FF fans, FF7 especially, and I came into this game with an open mind. So much of it was great. The expanded characters, visiting Jessie's house, an even better Wall Market, stunning new imaginings of enemies and environments!
Then came the end of Chapter 17 and onwards and it was painful. As a FF fan who's been here for every single player game, for me there was no getting off this train... until now.. Alternate timelines / time travel do nothing but reduce the stakes from the original story.
There were hints the whole time yes, but to be honest the whispers and prophetic visions were the one thing dragging down the experience along the way even before the ending.
The adrenaline rush of all the Shinra building events climaxing with the gang finally escaping the polluted city to see the world outside and vow to hunt Sephiroth, which is a beautiful scene in the original, should've been enough.
This ending cannot even make sense to new fans and for many experienced fans it's simply a horrible direction to go in, one that shows the developers don't understand that Cloud and Sephiroth's relationship ISN'T the most important theme of FF7.
Tifa sees Sephiroth the man who destroyed her home, her family, and reacts like it's just any old foe to take down? Aerith and Red XIII are suddenly oracles? How does anyone think this is acceptable?
The obvious symbolism is that fans like me are the whispers who won't let the original story deviate. If the directors are that critical of fans like us why even start this remake project. Make FF16, do whatever you want, tell yet another story of fighting fate if you want, hell make a different FF7 compilation game and tell it, but to market this as THE remake and pull this ending it's simply dreadful.
Its a mostly fun game with no regard for storytelling or themes but its worth playing if nothing else but to hear classic themes remixed and cringe-fun moments with the cast from the original. Just ignore all the filler.
So-so. There's a lot of stuff that was fun, but there was a lot of bullshit as well.
GOTY, including the whispers
Sorry this is FFVIIR lad, not FFXV designed for literally one button combat.
Just play the original then. Its clear that you guys can't appreicate new ideas and storytelling if you think this is anywhere near as bad as Kingdom Hearts.
GOTY, helped by the whispers.
I wish there was an option for players to start with hard mode if they so choose.
I understand why they cant, since everything is tuned to max level but the combat is just that much more amazing in hard mode and it's a shame most wont load up chapter select to enjoy it.
Bad. I hate the XV gameplay. The level design is most unimaginative boring shit ever and it doesn't fucking end with useless corridors and fetch shit.
youtube.com
Jim gives it 11/10 and calls it genius.
KINO IS BACK ON THE MENU LADS.
>lay out a page worth of criticism
>just play the original dude
Just because I don't think everything about the remake is amazing doesn't mean I "have" or "should" go back to the original. Yes, I know that the original exists. Yes I like it, yes it will always be there and Nomura's time jannies can't change what's on my discs.
That doesn't mean I don't have the right to complain about this. The only reason this remake even exists is because FF7 has one of the most devoted and outspoken fanbases out there. Even among other FF games it stands out, it's the favorite of MANY people and it was made at a time when real 3D was still in its early days. Thus it is also THE best candidate out of all FFs when it comes to being remade with modern day graphical capabilities.
The fact is that this remake wouldn't even exist, it would have never been made had people not asked for it over and over and over all these years. Lots of people, constantly and everywhere.
In what world did all those people, hardcore fans of FF7, ask for such a radically different spin on it? That's not what they asked for. They asked for FF7 to be reimagined with modern visuals. Maybe new combat, maybe new side missions, more exploration, more dialogue and more fleshed out characters.
And here comes the kicker: We actually got that. Yes the gameplay is a point of contention as some are purist about turn based or at least ATB, but even I am okay with the FF7R combat, though I wouldn't say I love it.
They were so close to nailing it. But then Nomura, Nojima, Toriyama and Kitase felt the need to not deliver the original story more or less untouched, maybe just added onto here or there.
Instead they saw the need to do something completely fresh when it's the one aspect no one asked for freshness in.
And now we're dealing with time ghosts, we're dealing with Biggs and Zack being alive, we're dealing with alternate dimensions. And this sucks.
It changed stuff and naturally, the boomers are having a tantrum. Smart of Square to get them out of the way earlier on so they won't bother with the next game that will clearly change even more stuff. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Playing it now.
Exceeding my expectations so far. The original is a personal fave.
Whatever changes that have been made are not at all jarring or annoying.
Love hearing the familiar music as I go through different areas.
Characters so far are pretty true to their original depictions.
Beautiful game.
It just reminded me why I never enjoyed final fantasy. A lot of people bitch about various specific aspects of the game but basically what it comes down to for me is the game is retardedly plot oriented and the world building is incoherent. Every FF is like this. Also the support AI in combat is pants on head retarded and I have no idea why nobody talks about this. They must all be playing on easy.
It's an experience for sure. Looking forward to the future.
This. The ending completely ruined it for me. I cant remember the last time an ending for anything was THIS bad. Literally if they just removed those last two chapters and ended it with a jenova fight the game would have been a 10/10 for me. But now I dont even want to play it again because of the punch in the gut that was the ending.
And yet the VAST majority of people online that i've seen, from twitch streamers and youtube video reviews think the story is amazing and better than the original. Sounds like a problem only for the most die hard fans of the original game that can't accept that this is a new game with its own plot and lore. It doesnt hurt the original game's story so why complain?
AI is great. Just wished the autoattacked faster.
They avoid lethal mechanics and guard extremely well. They also don't spend ATB so you can always make co-ordinated moves. Get good.
KH3 tier bad. I can't believe Nomura ruined another series.
Literally perfection. My only fear part 2 might take years to come.
I gave it a 6/10. It's Fine, but nothing to write home about.
Ending was good, if you look past some of the crazy you'll see it's all relatively self-contained and does a LOT of good things.
Story mode? Because that's just not true, even for normal difficulty
>And yet the VAST majority of people online that i've seen, from twitch streamers and youtube video reviews think the story is amazing and better than the original
You're clearly bullshitting.

On any game discussion site out there people are majorly negative about the ending
this guy had a meltdown

still look amazing
>AI is great
>they don't do anything but defend
Ok kid. What fucking coordination do you need? Tank buffs? There's no fucking synergies and everything goes down before you can stagger.
>git gud
Says the kid that doesn't even know what's going on.
>streamers and youtube video reviews think the story is amazing and better than the original.
Hey guys, do you want to watch me play a game that I hate and look at me being miserable, then come to my channel and don't forget to subscribe!!
This game is going to age INCREDIBLY well, the ending is massively controversial and not something you can digest easily or understand. The ending will be appreciated in time.
Also imagine comparing FF7 to part one only of FF7R.
Any site or person that reviews the game in the first 90% is gonna love it
It only becomes shit in the last 10%
Unfortunately the last 10% are so offensive they retroactively harm the rest of the game, taking it from an 8.5/10 down to a 6/10 or so.
Let's just say Squeenix hasn't produced anything good in over a decade
What does that mean for people who think it's OK at the beginning to middle? Am I going to love the ending? I'm at the boss you strip for parts and this whole past 2 hours section was boring unspired crap imo.
Again these are clearly the minority, representing die hard fans that are too attached to the original. Click on FF7R youtube videos and scroll through the comments. You'll see people praising the games story left and right. Just search up reviews and you'll see it too.
It's fantastic. The combat, visuals, music, story all incredible. Possibly one of the best rpgs ever. Also extremely respectful to the source content. Until it isn't.
>This game is going to age INCREDIBLY well, the ending is massively controversial and not something you can digest easily or understand. The ending will be appreciated in time.
No, it won't. It's a shitty ending and story with time travel and alternate dimensions keeping characters alive that shouldn't be.
The ending also blows the story wide open now, anything goes in part II and onwards. Full on KH fanfiction here we come.
The more people finish the game the more people we're getting who come out and say how disappointed they are about the last part of it.
The only thing people will remember in many months from now is the fact that Nomura, Nojima, Kitase and Toriyama wasted the ONE chance they had at doing the original's story justice and respecting it properly instead of giving us a nustory full of shitty fanfiction elements.
LMAO
>gathering only salty comments from reddit
>from fucking reddit
Guys give it a brake, its getting embarrassing. Not to mention all of these seething comments have nothing more then thirty upvote or something which is nothing.
My feelings exactly. It's nice to see that I am not alone in my massive disappointment.
Hate the people who apologize for this blatant scam of a game. Even if the writing wasn't shit (it is) and this truly was only different but still good (it isn't), it's still a fucking scam to call it a remake.
Are you retarded, no it isn't at all. Half the time they're doing absolutely nothing, other half of the time they are so far away from the fight for no reason that it takes ages to get back to the fight once you take control.
>story
That fucking dented skull.
Name a single one. It's lazy writing par excellence and breaking the fourth wall in a game like this sucks ass.
The point is that those are the highest voted comments in the FF discussion threads
argumentum ad populum
>herp hollywood makes the best movies
>mcdonalds makes the best food
Fucking great. Alternate universe shit has left me conflicted as fuck, but I have learned that it's too much of a waste of energy to be mad about this type of video game issue. I am just going to enjoy the great things and try to overlook the less good things.
It's not even true. Whether you stay here on Yas Forums or go to Gamefaqs or Reddit, any discussion thread where people finished the game is much more negative than positive about it.
I think it's fine to go the meta route but they could have executed it better. The main problem was the power levels went from 0 to 100 in an instant. It was too jarring.
Great game albeit with flaws. It has missed opportunities like no revistable Upper Plate area and while I like the idea behind the whispers they should have been more reserved and operating in the background rather than so openly confrontational with the characters. Loved everything else about the game really.
Great combat, that's about it.
only got thru the demo mission and saved to try out my other vidya I just got. Was the last copy in town and the faggot that rang me up got pissed off because he was going to buy it after he got off work.
The only complaints I have are the garbage textures and shimmying through things way too much.
