Such a gorgeous art wasted on a braindead grindy game.
post cressida
>started playing on PS1
>switched to PSP
>PSP Go broke and lost my save because it was on internal storage
>restart years later
>binge it until chapter 4 and then put it down for two years
>finally come back
It's still really fucking good. Easily better than FFT if only because of the improvements LUCT brought. If FFT had the same treatment it would be tougher to say.
The art is gorgeous indeed.
Is grinding necessary? I'm jumping straight to the next story maps, sometimes I have difficulties, but for now it's doable, aside from retarded guest AI, like Cistina or Arycelle.
Haven't made it to her yet, i'm at the stage you can see on the screenshot. I suppose it's even worse than that.
The game is very fun and beautiful, but when it's a map with a guest unit i cannot control, they do the most retarded shit like Arycelle moving forward to shoot the Cleric on the screenshot. Can't they like chill and move closer to my side.
Never played FFT and it's my first time with Tactics Ogre, it's really fun, aside from the things i mentioned above.
You don't need to grind, the game is piss easy if your team is all archers and ninjas. Get Tremendous Shot and Double Strike. Bows for archers and either daggers or katanas for ninjas. Gaining characters can be esoteric so you may want a guide; Arycelle is a beast but I remember you had to do something specific for her so try looking that up. If you really want to grind you can set autobattle on with AI.
Use Canopus with a lobber and the field alchemy skills to throw healing items at guests. Also, unequip his armor so that the enemies try to target him instead.
You might could also try sleeping or petrifying the guests, but I can't remember if you can target your own units with status spells.
I remember playing a GBA Tactics Ogre game where I used some scroll on a party member that killed them permanently and turned them into a ridiculously overpowered sword that would scream in agony any time I swung it.
Felt a little guilty about it, but man was it a cool sword.
Fuck that Priest you meet in like the 8th mission. In the PSP version, he charges the enemy front line every fucking time.
What version are you playing?
Really, the ONLY thing I found shitty with LUCT is grinding new classes. Fucking sucks it all starts on level 1 and they're entirely useless if you're leveling them by end-game.
The crafting system is literal grinding through menus. What the fuck were they thinking?
>You don't need to grind, the game is piss easy if your team is all archers and ninjas. Get Tremendous Shot and Double Strike
I noticed the archers being super good with Tremendous Shot, I got 2 of them and they absolutely wreck everything.
>Gaining characters can be esoteric so you may want a guide
I want to finish my first playthrough without any guides. I can already tell Cistina probably won't join me, since she didn't like my response to her question.
So it's Cistina all over again, thanks for the tip about the armor, it should also reduce his response time, so he will get his turn more often, right?
PSP one.
I'm not bothering with any other classes, they are so useless being at Lv.1, i don't feel like babysitting my 1HP dealing guys. And I'm at the beginning of Chapter 2, it must be a huge pain later on.
Don't forget to always weaken the boss, no matter how much they might look like a throwaway minion. All of them are the fucking best.
And don't get fucked out of companions by the hidden alignment mechanic. Or let it happen naturally on your first playthrough, it's that good a game.
>it should also reduce his response time, so he will get his turn more often, right?
yes
I thought you couldn't grind, wasn't there level scaling or something?
There's that woodland dungeon where you can repeat easy battles, but it really messes up your Chaos score/whatever it's called.
Luckily if you miss anyone you can go back and play different routes after beating the game. Always make sure that characters exhaust their dialogue before ending a battle. With Arycelle you only need not kill her when fighting her and Vyce.
>Don't forget to always weaken the boss, no matter how much they might look like a throwaway minion. All of them are the fucking best.
Will remember that. For now i don't have much problems with bosses (although that guy and his 2 griffins were tough), trying to finish off as much minions as possible for loot.
>And don't get fucked out of companions by the hidden alignment mechanic. Or let it happen naturally on your first playthrough, it's that good a game.
I read in the Warren Reports that the units have loyalty, and stuff like killing the units of their own clan can decrease it. For now nobody seems to hate me. Sounds like fun stuff, will see what will happen latter in the game.
Nice, will try to save her.
BLUNDER
MAIDEN
Damn, looks like Canopus can't equip it without changing class. Might try it first with Rune Fencer.
By Azura, by Azura, by Azura...
I just finished fft and the tactics drought is killing me. Is tactics ogre good and if so which version should I get?
Don't be delusional, FFT beats this in every aspect but party sizes
Maybe also portrait art
Vartan is kind of a dead end class anyway, because they can only equip 1H bows. Most people switch him to archer.
PSP version
Ok so
Any version not on PSP is simple and playable, a good game in its own right.
PSP version is loaded down with dumbass grinding and retarded dumbfuck rng everywhere because Japs are fucking clinical retards who don't understand human fucking beings. Holy shit what a colossal fuck up. How could they? I hope they don't sleep at night because they don't deserve it.
But PSP adds cool art, and a decent postgame plus the ability to switch between routes.
So it's a tossup: total parity of good and bad in classic versions, or else you go with the polar goods and bads in the PSP version.
Both are ultimately the same game, biggest difference is Ravness in main-game terms. After that you'll find some classes change from classic to PSP. Other than that it is the same game and both translations hold up.
>Vartan is kind of a dead end class anyway, because they can only equip 1H bows. Most people switch him to archer.
Makes sense, his melee attacks are barely better than his shortbow. I've only just now realized you can switch his class, thought he would be locked to his unique class.
any NPC you are supposed to escort
The only person you have to worry about defecting is Arycelle and that's only if you play on the Neutral route.
It was always entertaining to watch the pants-on-head retarded AI from Transport Tycoon attempt to make a rail line between two points.
Just give Canopus a 2H crossbow right away so he can learn several of the best finishing moves in the game. Brimstone Hail being the first is downright insane.
Except FFT is poorly translated, barely has any postgame content and no branching path. If it had a LUCT version it would probably be better.
