See, this was a complaint back in the day. That you cared about neither of these characters, so it wasn't really a choice, so much as a roster limitation. Which is why, in ME2, you get such importance put into the characters, why the change in design approach and the over-dramatization of their personalities. That way, they become distinct, they make you care for them and why the SM works in a conceptual level.

I "cared" about them as win-loss conditions and in a completionist way. They're flat characters, barely worth any time devoted to "caring" about them besides how they impact gameplay and how pleasant they are to look at on screen. The closest they get to writing an interesting piece is with Mordin.

She was ruined in ME3. In some ways worse than EDI. Tali got ruined in the Citadel DLC.
