Some JRPGs are difficult and require planning and strategy. FF is not a prime example of this, but some require good execution, you can't bruteforce your way through encounters.

But why not watch a movie then? If all you're doing is moving the character out of battle and holding one button during battle, you can simply watch someone 'play the game' on youtube, it's the same visual experience without you using exactly two thumbs. Is the illusion of gratification and instant rewards so strong in this type of game that 'playing' it instantly overrides any other thought? I don't intend to sound mean, but I am genuinely baffled

Yes if you need to time it properly, no if you can press circle 10 times but the game still counted it as 6 because that's the longest combo you've unlocked so far.
Extra yes if you had to time at least two or three buttons instead of just circle

My only complaint with FFXV is that:
1. There is no real fucking cities.
2. There isn't much to do in the open-world
3. They didn't even try to make NPCs dress differently despite the cast looking different
4. Ardyn and the whole starscourage plot is retarded and shit
5. It was wrong of them not allowing the player to permanently play as one of the boys in the open-world/combat and requiring you to fill in a techbar to switch.
