Looked to me like they cut back on Aerith a lot for Remake. I think she has most of the obvious romance signs but they cut all the stuff from Shinra HQ.

Think about what this scene means in the context of the narrative. This is the resolution scene for high affection with Aerith. It's for the players that are going after Aerith. It shows Aerith's doubts and then it shows Cloud resolving to prove her wrong. It's obviously a set up for a payoff later down the road where he'll prove his feelings are real.
