what went so FUCKING wrong?

It was far too ahead of its time.
Quantity over quality.
They're also not very good at analyzing video games. Their sonic the hedgehog video was atrocious "we played this game for 5 mins and died therefore we conclude this game SUCKS :^)"
How can 2 middle aged men who claim to be into video games not understand that 16 bit platformers require lots of playtime to build up your skill and knowlege of the level design?
They're fucking amateurs.
They did not leverage their skill sets. They know movies: editing, story, cinematography. Instead of speaking with what they were knowledgeable of and taking pretentious wannabe movie director developers to the woodshed they decided to just be normal game critic types.
There's a reason their take down of Order 1886 is still their best video, and it is not like there would be a shortage of games to critique in that way. Instead of doing that, even when they played those games, they just looked at them from the typical gameplay stance that every Tom, Dick, and Harry does.
They're Boomers
They just don't know that much about games. The best video they did was the Order 1886 one because it's a movie game and their expertise is analyzing movies.
Mike and Jay have all the talent
They put the two worst people in RML on the same show with just them. Of course it'll be bad
They suck at video games because they're so old.
i remember i tried watching them in their early days and they tried playing Dark Souls and they could literally barely move the fucking camera and move at the same time, its like handing the controller to your grandma who's never played a video game in their life, they even handed it to Jay briefly and he was way better than them and even figured out immediately you could lock on to enemies.
why do people over 30 even bother playing video games? their brains are too fried and slow to be any good at anything.
Refute this, Yas Forums
>OLD GAME GOOD
>NEW GAME BAD
Except that was not his point. His point was pretentious game developers who want to tell a story have no clue how to actually design a game, so they end up just making a third person shooter and retread the mechanics that have been done in a dozen other games without even adding anything new or meaningful.
Incredibly narrow tastes. Ones a complete normie that barely plays games and doesnt want to try anything that is out of the norm and the other only plays select games and doesnt budge towards anything else, Rich was honestly fine when he was into the game, Moby seemed more interested in his phone, any time it was his choice to play a game it was the most flaccid and boring thing you could think off, and then he had to set up his weird keyboard thing because hes the kind of person that uses arrow keys to move when playing PC games. What the fuck was that thing he was using.
they're correct, in the 7th gen era TPS has become the equivalent of the 2D platformer in the 90s
I liked their opinions. It was interesting to see. PR is what got me into RLM since I found them first from Yas Forums.
>go for the lazy stream format when your fans are used to tight RLM editing
People who like streams have a much higher tolerance for garbage, but they already have their garbage icons.
Would I watch a show with these two? Sure. Would I watch eternal streams? Fucking no. I wouldn’t watch RLM if I did.
Rich is an insufferable pile of shit and the only thing that makes him bearable is a panel that makes him the butt of every joke and tons of editing
Rich is insufferable without Mike to keep him in check and Aids Moby is only tolerable when he's drunk.
You watching people who have to include their mutt faces with video game content is what went wrong.
>like everything RLM
>like vidya
>hate this show
Granted I also hate watching streams, or anything that’s not edited to an extent.
That being said I still want to see Rich Evans’ full breakdown of ME3 to Mike
did something happen?
They shut down out of disinterest 2 years ago or so.
"Cover-based shooters are bad" is the safest, stalest opinion you could possibly have on modern games. People have been bitching about "hallways littered with chest-high walls" for over a fucking decade now.
In spite of that, it's still not wrong. "Cinematic over-the-shoulder action view with two-thirds framing" is literally the template Sony uses to make games.
>40 year old manchildren ranting about video games
Oh I thought it was another super best friends thing
Hilariously super best friends was a business, while red letter media is actually just a bunch of dorks having fun together
RLM as a whole are film buffs who watch an unholy amount of films. Plus they've released multiple feature length films so they understand the basics of cinematography well.
Rich and Aids Moby are somewhere above casual gamers, but not hardcore. And without any game making experience they lack any real insights. So their critiques are incredibly shallow. I enjoyed watching them at the time but I don't care that the show ended.
>what are they best at?
Tearing apart deservingly shitty games
>what is not the least bit fucking fun?
Playing shitty games
It's possible to be into something and also have terrible opinions about it.
Its always confusing to see but it happens.
I watched the Dark Souls debate Jack had with Yahtzee. Good lord that was bad, no chemistry, Yahtzee just ramming his standard misanthrope jokes in while Jack giggles and tries to do an important voice
I don’t even hate Jack, but he’s not even sidekick material, he’s cameo material
MICHAEL BAY BAD
NICKELBACK BAD
THIRD PERSON SHOOTER BAD
