Good MMOs

>irl friends want a game to play together because kung flu
>they pretty much only play assfaggots
>try to get them to play the usual coop games on PC
>they half-ass all the way and get bored
>for some reason they figured they'd like MMOs because apparently assfaggots gameplay = MMO gameplay
>we all install this garbage
>I absolutely hate it
What are some actual good MMOs? All I can think of is FF14. They keep suggesting WoW but I'd rather not give Blizzard money

FF14 is better solo since 80% of the leveling consists of watching story cutscenes
Try wow classic with your friends

WoW
FF14 is a boring slog with unresponsive gameplay

FF14 is a singleplayer game, wuth added multiplayer segments

Man is there really no competition to WoW? Fucking hell, two decades and no one can release anything better
Well shit

FF14 is the only competitor, but like what was said before it's more like a single-player game (until you get to end-game), it's mostly cutscenes with very little combat, leveling with a friend would be extremely boring in my opinion
the endgame is more like wow, but I really don't like the gameplay, once you've played wow it feels unresponsive

FFXIV is garbage

Aura Kingdom was pretty good when it had a /vg/ general and the private server was new

No, it really wasn't.

>FF14 is a boring slog with unresponsive gameplay
t. seething WoW faggot

Tibia

Spend some comfy times in mabinogi no don't actually do this

it really is
>walk
>cutscene
>walk
>cutscene
>walk
>interact with item
>cutscene
>walk
>stand in purple zone
>2 mobs spawn
>kill them
>walk
>cutscene
>repeat
Just give me stuff to kill

It was. Before it turns into a fishbotting game.

At least WoW was good back in the day compared to games of its time. FFXIV was garbage from launch.

Both games are shit if you try to play them today.

Silkroad Online

Sounds like somebody got filtered. MMORPGs aren't supposed to be fun. And I don't entirely understand why the genre gets a pass for things like that and their boring gameplay loops and dated animation that other genres would be heavily criticized for. I think it's just that having fun isn't the expectation and reason for playing these sorts of games, as even reviews for XIV, WoW and similar games usually don't talk about it. They instead focus on things like cosmetics, plot, and playable races as I guess that is what the majority of MMORPGs players care about. It's kind of similar to how mobile games and things like the sims are reviewed and respected by their playerbase.

Yeah we'd all have to invest like 100+ hours solo before getting anything fun together
Man it really didn't click for me. Half the game plays itself. I only leveled up to 25 and all the quests played the same (killing X enemies), but I guess that beats just walking and talking to NPCs.
And the aesthetic was what I hated the most, looks so damn cheap.
I'll check them out. Silkroad looks nice but I fear Mabinogi.

>logging camp
There is nothing comfy about this.

Play Final Fantasy 11.

City of Heros also had private servers finally popping up. Something about furries hogging the sourcecode and other more jealous furries releasing it. I forgot to continue following it so maybe it's all still alive.

I'm sorry user, it's literally Wow or FFXIV.

TOR is decent for story play throughs, but end game is pretty boring.

LOTR Online, really dated and difficult to get into.

ESO, decent but combat sucks balls. Weapon switching feels so bad.

I'm in the same boat as you. I keep dreaming of this amazing MMO, but it doesn't exist. WoW/Classic is probably the best traditional MMO. FFXIV has really fun rotations for each class, and tons of variety between them.

The problem with FFXIV is weeb shit, which isn't too bad, but also it takes like 80 hours to beat the mandatory Main Story Questline. It's fun, but it's more like a single player game until late game. I hope you find something you can enjoy by yourself and with friends.

It's too late to get into mabinogi for a new player now. It is literally impossible to even remotely catch up due to how the game is designed.

Oh I forgot about Guild Wars 2. Runs like ass, decent combat, but it devolves into waiting for world bosses or buying loot with money.

Just make sure you don't meet your girlfriend on there.
Because mods will delete those threads too.

Attached: This happened today, and yet mods delete every thread this is talked about in for some reason. Can't this anon at least get some god damn sympathy - he's had a hard life.png (551x557, 100.32K)

Stop it. I didn't come here to feel.

You want some suggestions and takes on MMOs? Fine, here you go.
>FF14.
Its mainly a solo adventure with a good array of options with some level of forced grouping mixed in. Story is decent but can get dry at times. The cash shop isn't that bad but for a sub-based game they sure do have alot there. The PvP scene is pretty ded though, so don't bother with it i'd say.
>WoW.
The company shat the bed with that product and had to overhaul the whole thing pretty much in Shadowlands. So If your thinking about trying it out then just wait for Shadowlands. But in terms of the product: WoW is and always been just a casuals game that relies way too much on its Dungeons, Raids to maintain their players attention towards the product.
>ESO.
It's just a single player game that has a ridiculous cash shop attached to it. The combat is a tad stiff when compared to games like Tera. Storyline is pretty ok but cliched and the choices are very limiting, the voice acting is great though. The PvP scene is where most of the players are though, since that's essentially all there is to do once you've gone through all the quests and cleared all the maps.
>BDO.
A single player vast open world that's got really nothing much to offer outside of good professions, action combat, and your typical korean game issues. Oh and even though there is a pvp system most players will not play with it on. Instead most of the pvp is between guilds
>Guild Wars 2.
Lots of jumpin puzzles and endless series of 'events' on maps. Combat is more or less just Action Combat but with tab targeting tossed in the fray. Devs are more or less just a bunch of simps an npcs and the story is riddled with their political messages. The pvp scene is pretty much just like ESO.
>Blade and Soul.
The only reason people play this is for the e-sports and pretty dresses but outside of those scenes the game has your standard korean shit and as for story... well it's there.

want more? go find reviews done in 2020

Old School Runescape
>group bossing
>group pvp
>group raids
The grind to get to endgame doesn't take too long if you know what you're doing. The game looks like shit, but it's still a MMO and not a single player with inconvenient group instances like FFXIV.

Just play minecraft imo.

I've been thinking the same, and in particular I've been wanting something open-ended with world PvP. Is retail WoW still like that at all? I realize the advantages of Classic but the combat just isn't for me, the movement of a Demon Hunter was just too fun when I tried that. Curious as to what the endgame is like too, and if it involves plenty of traveling and sightseeing.

PSO2 but it's not out on PC yet. And it seems only for W10 at the end of next month. If you have Xbones its on there already though.

I just came back to act like a new player and meet people on the merged server, been super comfy, but already I'm not sure what next to do. I'm sure there's plenty, but it'll be redoing the same shit I've done before and I'm not sure if I wanna commit to another character when my Alexina one is still so much further. Really wish there was still a Yas Forums guild, be at least nice to hang around in something like that again.

Elder Scrolls Online can be fun.
You can all explore and quest together very earlier in the game.

>really fun rotations for each class, and tons of variety between them
Did something change since I last checked? From what I played, and from everything I've seen of it, the skills seem like the most homogenous shit ever with very few effects that do more than cause damage, or increase or reduce the amount of damage done to a thing. No interesting movement options besides a few gap-closers, no knockback or stun mechanics as far as I've seen, basically just whacking or shooting stuff with stat sticks. I'm probably not articulating this very well but it just seems like some of the most plain gameplay I've ever seen, and I really did want to like it so that I could play with friends who do.
