Sephiroth utilied reunion clones to intentionally twist destiny. The spectres are trying to maintan the timeline. Due to the changes he continuously caused more and more ghosts gathered forcing Destiny to get involved. Sephiroth orchestrated this to untie "Destiny's" control over the timeline where he loses allowing him to alter his fate.

They'll probably add small changes, but unlikely. Zack is alive in a different timeline (Hi DLC/Spinoffs) and the end of FF7 is the end of the Midgar section of the original.

Did you miss the part where Nanaki calls the classic ending of FF7 the "glimpse of tomorrow should we fail today"? The literal foreshadowing of Aerith's death and the meteor falling? They are totally throwing out the original story going forward.

I can't imagine they'll be much narrative use beyond helping the party infiltrate midgar again later in the story. It'd be different if they were playable party members in this game, but they aren't.

It's really nothing to sperg out about. The game still ends with the party setting out to hunt for sephiroth. They're not going to flip the fucking table on what happens in the storyline, they'll use the sequence of events as a framework to expand upon, just like they did with midgar.

Be safe and well user, try NG+ hard mode if you're up to it, had a much better time gameplay-wise.

this is the feeling I got. Like they got halfway through this and realized they didn't really want to do a remake and instead wanted to do a reboot. The death eater ghost things are just a stand in for the fans that wanted them to do a 1 for 1 update.

But FF7 literally has a good ending besides Aerith dying. The planet is saved and life still exists in Red XIII and his cubs

Tell you what, if advent children and dirge of cerberus didn't say otherwise, ff7s ending is actually pretty bleak. It's actually sort of in the air whether or not humanity survived Meteor. Couple that with the theme mentioned earlier in the story of how Holy/the planet will destroy ALL threats to it, not just meteor, it really could be seen as a doomsday ending.

Even then, with AC and DoC confirming they won and lived, humanity is gone only 500 years later, it's not exactly a win at the end of the day. Playing through ff7 recently I legitmately forgot how bleak it was.
