>Video game picks up Warhammer franchise
>Bankrupts or worse
Why is Warhammer series so cursed for many video game developers? Will we ever see a great Warhammer game ever again?
Video game picks up Warhammer franchise
The loophole game devs aren't exploiting is that Games Workshop doesn't have jurisdiction on "community" mods (as long as the community mods don't rip content from warhammer games). A dev team can make a base foundation game that is low effort trash and siphon all of their warhammer content into a fake modding team studio. Moddb and Youtube can easily advertise "Hey you gotta buy this game first before you play an actually good Warhammer mod that isn't shat on by GW all the time."
That way you can go all out on lore accurate content without GW fucking your anus with a rusty pole with "Make these microtransactions! No you cannot add this, this, this, this, and all of this. Actually just make it all Ultramarines and call it quits."
Do we actually know how much GW tries to micromanage the developers?
One thing that is obvious that nobody making decisions at GW understands anything about videogames. They keep giving a chance to so many total garbage devs. And they keep letting them make mobileshit. Fans are most likely not that into mobileshit. GW is just really out of touch with their fans as a whole. As we could see with the whole Age of Sigmarine garbage.
>tfw bought Gladius
I want to kill myself
From what i remember from the dumpster fire development that was Warhammer 40k Eternal Crusade, there was a lot of Ork content that had to be cut because it didn't make it out of GW's approval process. I mean fuck, it's ork tek only imagination could hold you back but GW smashed that shit with their "NOT CANON!"
It's really only the case for 40k. Fantasy has quite a few great games.
>GW smashed that shit with their "NOT CANON!"
>defending BI
BFGA2 is incredible
DoW1 is so too
Mechanicus is good
Space Marines was ok to good
DoW2 is alright
Deathwing is entertaining, enjoyable for awhile
Outside these, yeah
IS warhammer mark of chaos worth it?
GW hit a critical mass of being out of touch a few years back, and most of the shit in the pipeline before that suffered for it.
They are much more open now, and actually communicating better with fans. Things have improved. Also, their licensing is far less than it was and they are open to trying more things with games now, which is why a lot of smaller studios pick up their IP in order to come out of the gate with name recognition.
The only real reason you don't see bigger, more established studios touching their IPs anymore is because of control. Bigger companies want total ownership of their games, and using someone elses IP goes directly against that.
No idea but from watching 11 seconds of gameplay, just play Total War Warhammer
dawn of war remains the best. You can play with pretty much all races and factions.
>Fantasy has quite a few great games.
I think this is because GW never cared about fantasy in the first place. Now that AoS happened anything before that was opened to games like with Total War and Vermintide.
Total War might well resurrect Warhammer Fantasy
>warhammer mark of chaos
naw just play total war, theres nothing of value in mark of chaos in comparison
I'm still waiting on the third game. Where the fuck is it?
Ew no. BI can go dig a mass grave with their mouths and drown in sewage from taco bell tuesdays. Just posting up an example of how tight a grasp GW has on their dev teams. Even then both parties are pieces of shit.
its going to be a swan song for the team, just be patient. can you imagine trying to top warhammer 2? The sheer amount of content in that game is outstanding.
I don’t pay attention to WHFB or AOS miniatures but I thought that’s what Warhammer Old World or something is supposed to be.
I just want the ultimate combination gamemode where I have all the content at once.
I swear there must be some secret to playing the game correctly but other than playing as IG and creating a massive defense line of Basiliks to bombard anything that gets close, I don't know what it is.
Are those the same disgusting Québécois subhumans that made DBD?
It's already back
Correct. They brought it back because of fan outcry. Also, IIRC, they have even updated the lore for it, so now Age Of Sigmar and Old World are two separate things entirely.
Yea, all existing factions of the game will be intacted or reworked, on top of a new campaign and an expanded mortal empires campaign just like war 2
What does DBD stand for?
Fuck 40k, anything they do won't top the fantasy total wars
Biggest gripe for me is CSM being undivided with different coats of paint.
I don't really think they micromanage devs at all. They hand out licences like candy, there'd be too much work to oversee everything.
Dead by Daylight
Except for Tyranids. You know, the race everyone wanted in SS but we got SoB instead.
>inb4 mods
I'm well aware you can use tyranids in UA
Because Games Workshop will sell the license to any studio whatsoever?
It's not that the franchise is cursed, it's that any old dipshit can pick up a license to make his shitty game.
True, but I think there's a mod that lets you choose your chaos god allegiance. I can't remember if it's CODEX or Ultimate Apocalypse.
UA lets you choose your chaos god for sure, I don't know if CODEX does
I liked sob. Their love for flamethrowers and desire to burn everything is pretty cool imo.
Mechanicus is great though
