The terrible hitboxes are actually great in Sekiro because they make deflects easier. It’s only annoying if you’re trying to physically avoid the hitboxes, which you probably shouldn’t be doing. Asshole-long hitboxes on thrusts make Mikiri stomps easy as shit. Deflecting giant radial swings with shitty timing is easy when the hitbox starts being generate 5 feet from the enemy’s blade. Etc.

There are no “playstyles”. There’s “Sekiro’s way” and “dead”. It’s arguably a shortcoming of the game but you either play it on its terms or you die, that’s the reality. I say that as someone who has had to unlearn a LOT of DMC/Bayo to survive in the game.

if they designed the game in such a way that you cant dodge most attacks because they are hard to dodge (you know, would make sense) then fair enough, still arguably a flaw but I'd be fair.
In sekiro dodging isn't viable only because they didn't bother making proper hitboxes.

The game doesn't have bad hitboxes. It mostly has really good ones. BUT it does have some really bad ones or ones that are weird. And in a game with really good hitboxes and demanding combat, those few bad ones stand out.

Seikro is fair because the deflect has a massive window, I actually think its bigger than the iframe on the rolls in dark souls. That being said you have to play some bosses in Seikro like a Souls game since they're pretty poorly designed

it's not viable because they couldn't make good hitboxes. If they did it would be since most attacks look dodgeable and there's a grappling hook the game never uses

Hitboxes are often dogshit and some attacks have such bullshit tracking that the animations dont go that far cannot keep up. ( specially upwards )
