Sixth-gen was the last old-school generation.
Sixth-gen was the last old-school generation
I dare say it was, in most people's minds, retro.
Quite obviously so. Unless you be a dolt.
It was the last time video games were fun too
I mean, it was twenty years ago, so...yeah.
People were calling the NES and SNES and Genesis retro around that time, so it only makes sense that sixth gen is considered retro now.
Once we enter HD, almost everything goes to shit.
>3D graphics
>old school
The last time devs actually had to put out finished games
As mentioned, it's 20 years old now. People who were born in the year of the Gamecube's release are now IN porn.
OP here, it's not old-school because of its age. It's old-school because of its aesthetics. When the PS3 turns 20, it still won't be old-school. When the universe ends the PS3 will still be new-school.
Shut the fuck up. Time doesn't give a shit about your arbitrary rules.
Retro is relative. What seems inconceivable to be retro right now will be retro one day. Just wait and see
how can anyone even compete with Sony
Favela monkey
I mean, it's not rocket science. Compare the PS2 to the PS3. There's a world of difference. For example, the PS2 had cool space aesthetics while the PS3 uses a boring gradient with XMB navigation. The PS2 is associated more with CRTs while the PS3 is HD.
And... ?
>that one kid that called the SNES "old" upon it's original release
If a couple were to have procreative sex with the assistance of the dualshock 2 controller as a vibrating toy, their child would have been of age to post on Yas Forums for about 6 months.
The PS2 feels more dated than the PS3. There are more differences between the PS2 and the PS3 than there are the PS3 and the PS4.
>It's old-school because of its aesthetics
Nothing in the fifth gen has aesthetics that match the 3rd gen, either.
... Aaaaaand?
Yeah, thankfully they actually started designing visually attractive designs
I mean, it's not rocket science. Compare the SNES to the N64. There's a world of difference. For example, the SNES had cool pixel art while the N64 uses boring 3D graphics with blocky characters. The SNES is associated more with 2D while the N64 is 3D.
The PS3 could have come out yesterday. Old-school stuff feels more like a product of their time. New-school stuff feels eternally modern.
>while the PS3 is HD.
6th gen had plenty of HD games, they could run many games in either 720p or 1080i. If you think 6th gen is "old school" you're a fucking Zoomer.
/vr/ here
Neck yourself
The difference is that the SNES and N64 were both soulful (yeah, I know it's a buzzword, but it's a useful one). They both have the 90s spirit. The PS2, too has that feel to it, but the PS3 doesn't.
Give it five years.
Those games came out in its later years. Sixth-gen games from 1998-2003 were primarily SD.
PS2 is now officially retro. Cope. One day Fortnite will be considered retro and all you will be able to do is cope. Either come up with new terms for your turbo boomer games or kill yourself.
Yeah, when I think disgusting pixely mess, I think of castlevania 2, and naturally when I think of clear well-rendered city and monster designs I think of vagrant story.
I mean, that's a few games on only the Xbox. Hell, most people didn't have HDTVs until the mid-to-late 2000s.
>NOOO IT'S NOT RETRO ONLY MY SEGARINO DREAMCASTRINO COUNTS, NOT THE CONSOLES PEOPLE ACTUALLY BOUGHT
sounds like youre upset because your poor man pc cant emulate them.
Playstation made everything else look old
/vr/ - "sega and dead pc developers" is a containment board. We want them to have dreamcast so that they can stay where they belong.
>that's a few games on only the Xbox
Oh cool, didn't realise Gran Turismo was an Xbox exclusive.
Playstation was dated on release. You look at toy story and you look at the entire PS1 library, and you go back to playing 2d games on your snes.
The last gen where each console was unique
most games on the PS2 were 480i
I don't see why not. Super Nintendo was already considered retro in 2005
yeah fuck no.
Nobody had a SNES in yurop for starters, and everybody thought 2D was shit after the PS1 dropped. Sounds like you couldn't afford it at the time lol
This Zoomers differentiating fact is "PS3 is HD". Im pointing out that plenty of 6th gen games were. Hell for half the generation most games on 7th gen weren't even HD.
Don't call people you don't know zoomers.
Yes, as a racingfag I can't just say that this is soulful...
Indeed. But you're still not going to be allowed on /vr/. Deal with it.
